reckon you could pm me a guide to better running fitness lol

To start off with just try and run for say 5 minutes at a slow pace without stopping. Maybe every second run increase it by 1 or 2 minutes. That's all I did. I was able to run for 30-40 minutes reasonably easy affer a while. I can't remember how long it took me as it was a while ago.

I was happy staying at that level for a few years but then started pushing harder and got more serious about it. It probably helps that my wife and I got into it at a similar time so there was always motivation there.

Not sure what bthis site is like http://www.runningforbeginners.com/ but there should be plenty of info on the net.

Which distance are you doing?
Just doing the 9km, I was thinking about the half marathon but chickened out. Good thing I did because I've done no training for it, just been playing sport.

I used this to get me started. You will want to start a few weeks into it though or it will be too easy. It brings you along at a pace that's fast enough you get results but not so fast you give up.

Yep. One thing though, if you find it hard getting up the motivation for running you may find a treadmill boring. I've only ever done two runs on a treadmill, can't stand it. See how you go though.

I didn't look at the link HB posted, that's the same thing I used. I did quite a bit on the treadmill during winter no problems although I found results came quicker outdoors. If doing it on a treadmill I'd recommend a slight inclination to mimic the extra difficulty of external running.

i find the motivation of the hot birds on the elliptical machine in front of me. plus the gym is on the way home so i am finding motivation for the gym again

That's one thing those programs are great for because they ease you through the process of running. I got the app on my phone so I could play all my music through the app.

Every time I've looked into running before this last attempt (using the couch to 10km) I've gotten injured from pushing myself too hard too fast.

Which app mate?

I started off with C25K (Couch to 5k) then upgraded to the 10km verision and more recently the half marathon.

They are the programs in that link HB put up just in an easy to use phone format.

It's intervals of jogging and walking, tells you when to start and stop running etc etc.

They are really easy to keep up with, if you have still been playing soccer etc I'd recommend starting a few weeks in or it will be too easy and you will get bored.

It's based off you doing three runs a week although for the most part I kept it to two a week (training and sport didn't allow any more) and progressed to the next week.

Hahahaha that is not good. Good thing you didn't do the half in that case.
Indeed, wouldn't have risked going out with those maniacs if I was doing the half though.

There may have been a few pit stops for spews haha. Wasn't pretty.

Oh well look at the bright side mate, you certainly worked off the grog from the previous night! :)
