I thought we were already out and they had moved past the group stages already
lol
Nah if Fiji lost by 8 or more this morning we would have made it.

Man this tournament is so damn long. Guess they do need a fair break in between games though, unlike soccer.

People thing league is run by amateurs ..lol

Imagine how bad NRL would be if it had the lesser budget (from what I understand) of Union

Rugby Australia were warned when they hired him. 🤷‍♂️

We weren't exactly dominating the sport with Cheika and Rennie but at least we were competitive (unconvincingly) and still managed some good wins here and there

Cheika coaches Argentina now and are ranked higher than the Wallabies

Eddie Jones recent coaching stint had the worst win % of a Wallabies coach since the early 70's

If our young players go strong at the next World Cup I wonder if Jones will deserve or claim any credit because in his own words he was preparing us for the next world cup, not the current one.

Now he is gone so someone with a new philosophy is probably gunna take over anyway but maybe they will be forced to use the younger players at some point anyway.

Yep it's pretty funny.

Phil Waugh, the new CEO, has a brilliant idea of staging a schoolboys gala day competition for the private elite schools.

Seriously, these dumb shits will never learn

Not really the ideal way for a top tier nation to approach a World Cup though.

Presumably some of the young guys he took will do a tiny bit better 4 years from now than they otherwise may have, having been on the stage before. But in the meantime Aus dropped out at pool stages for the first time ever and I think that does have consequences.
Is those handful of guys being half a percent better in the future worth the potential damage?

If you're a promising footballer with offers from both codes that Wallabies performance probably doesn't make you feel better about going down that path. Do I sign with one of 16 NRL clubs with SOO and a strong International side? Or one of 5 Aus Rugby clubs (who generally do between bad and okay) and have what is now a pretty poor International side?

It'd be a relatively fringe case also but an up and coming player may think twice about which eligibility to pursue.
Maybe a Fijian-Australian player goes with Fiji who would have gone with Aus if the Wallabies had excited them this tournament.
Or European ancestry for one of the sides who did well. If you can get a contract to go play over in Europe France, Ireland, England and Wales just topped all the pools. Might be more attractive to take the contract and try for your European side than to stick it out for the Melbourne Rebels and Wallabies.

Seems very realistic he has hurt Wallabies future as much if not more than he has benefited it by using some young guys to tarnish the reputation of the team.

Australian rugby couldn't afford the 4 year wait for results. If Jones was touting that this was just a warm up for the next one, and he was still allowed anywhere near the side, then those in charge deserve to take more of the blame than Eddie

Jones leaves and Channel 9 can't even spell 'au revoir' properly.
It does rhyme with 'savior' though. Which he was... I think... :ROFLMAO:

Doubt anyone here would care but Eddie Jones came through screening this afternoon with a smile, minus his acubra hat. I asked him how he was and he said not too good. I then asked if he was off to Japan as that was the word on the street, he just nodded and said that he has to feed his family somehow. Poor bloke.
