Who are the ref lovers Henchmann?

fergo was absolutely robbed. 44-22 in my book, not that it makes any difference.

TBH I only watched the second half, but I saw the highlights of the first. So my (significantly impaired) thoughts:

Positives
Nice to see Gordon and Vave get their first tries- and Gordon's was an absolute cracker. Everyone enjoyed that yeah?

Also loved Gordon's try-saver on Folau, great tackle in off his wing.

When Smith gets some decent ball and gets involved, he looks a bit like Scott Prince. Good try.

Vave looked like he played more minutes, and good ones.

Brod Wright tried hard and his carries were better than I expected.

Negatives
Barrett ended up making the kick too often. Smith's the better kicker, he needs to have the ball on the last.

Dropped the footy too much.

Whenever Lockyer got the ball on the right and engaged a couple of defenders, Brisbane looked like they were going to score through either Thaiday or Folau. Reason: Tautai. He either needs to swap with Fergo or we bring in Matt Wright. He's just not a centre at this level- he could play wing or second row, but not centre.

Pom missed some tackles and Brisbane looked dangerous down his edge. *EDIT: Pom made some horrible defensive decisions as well. What to do, what to do with our centres.

Whenever McCullough got the ball at dummy half and ran they looked like scoring. It was the same problem as against manly last week- we lost that middle third of the ground in attack and in defence and thus had no control over the game. Brod Wright's miss that led to a try in the 2nd half was a good example, atrocious. This has to be our focus for the rest of the year- winning that middle third in attack and defence.

Injuries. What's the damage? Did I hear the commentators say something about Snowy??? Who else?

AB - you've made the most sense so far

It's farely simple - we had a lot go against us today - a few iffy calls, a couple of bad bounces - but the good teams get over that - poms can't tackle, barret doesn't do enough, defensively we don't move up in a line (basic stuff), we give away an avalanche of penalties (usually in the first half) which gives us 35% posession if we're lucky. Some of those penalties were obvious before they were called (eg morris when he was called out by the ref but still followed thru with the tackle). End result is we spend most of the game in our quarter and they run at our worst defenders (poms' side) and "surprise" they score. I'm not quite sure on the solution here, and I have no idea why dougie was benched, but surely our training by our supposedly elite coach should be heavily geared to our defence from our backline? I mean ffs, tackle the man with the ball?

One thing of note.

As commented on by the commentators, we no longer seem to slow the play of the ball to a point where the defensive line has had a chance to set.

Every set the opposition just trundles it down field like 12 metres, gets quick plays of the ball and than pressures us on our line OR gets a penalty as the players arent back the ten (as they havent had time to get back)

Looks like they are that scared of getting pinned for holding down, leading to our players being run out due to the super fast plays of the ball.

I only get to see the mighty sharkies live when they travel up north and I saw pretty much what I've seen for the last few seasons - no big surprises there.

What I was surprised with though was the amount of swapping that goes on in the defensive line. There seemed to be little communication like "I've got 9 etc" and there always seemed to be a big hole right behind the ruck area which the Broncos exploited on numerous occasions when they tired of making our backs look like amateurs. How many players are we shielding?

One positive from the game was we got to sit in front of the cheerleaders with a few sharkies supporters. They stuffed up one of their routines and someone yelled out - "they must have been coach by Ricky" - but they only stuffed up one!

I think our fullback and wingers should hold their spots.
Barrett and Smith hold their spots.
Douglas and Snowden to start.
Gallen, Tupou and Millington to start.
Vave and Aiton get bench spots.
Everyone else can choke on a big black one.

Because Tupou is quiet at second row anyway, and because our centres are so damn bad, I think we should move Tupou to the centres. I don't like it but I think it has to be done.

I think M. Wright should be given another chance. He was dropped because he is young but also because he made a few bad mistakes in defence that weren't acceptable in first grade, BUT, these mistakes weren't as bad as the ones our centres have been making the last two weeks. I mean look how devastated we were last year when the Rabbitohs scored on the siren, that weak goal line defence is what we are seeing constantly now.

This leaves us with a big hole in our forwards. We need another two second rowers and another prop. B. Wright probably gets the prop spot. I wish Cuthbertson would put down the cheese burger and be a starting second rower. Then maybe we blood an NYC player as bench second rower.

1 - Stapleton
2 - Ferguson
3 - M. Wright
4 - Tupou
5 - Gordon
6 - Barrett
7 - Smith
8 - Snowden
9 - Morris
10 - Douglas
11 - Cuthbertson
12 - Millington
13 - Gallen
14 - Aiton
15 - Vave
16 - B. Wright
17 - Kyle O'Donnell or Jake Anlezark

This is by no means my perfect team but I really really really believe both our centres need to be dropped.

I didn't see the game yesterday, thank goodness. I was at Brookie last week and it seems like the same issue. We didn't turn over the ball allot in that game either. It was 3penalties in a row combined with rubbish goal line defense in the 1st half that killed us. Sounds like that was some of the issue this week as well.
With a young team it is hard to get into the grind week in week out. It takes it out of you mentally and to think you have to do that in order to win any game makes it hard. In 08 we had a number of senior players who could play that way and get the job done. With a bunch of kids you can't do that. We need a change of attitutude that says we can win games of football but we don't have to smash blokes in every tackle and defend ourselves like we are being invaded by alliens. What the players need to do is trust their abilities and focus on what they are doing in that point in time. People keep saying we can't score points but that is rubbish. We have blokes like Ation, Smith, Morris, Fergo, Gordon, who can all put points on. We need to believe in that and start to trust that. Look at the Tigers they throw the pill around and try to put points on the board all the time. I am not saying we need to do that but we need to have belief in our attack and trust ourselves and our ability. The siege mentality only works from time to time, not all the time.

I would like to see Kelly at 5/8 and Barrett at lock. I would like to see Toups and Gal in the 2nd row and Millo on the bench. Millo has been playing really well but that would give us a stronger bench and more options.

What kids are you talking about? Gordon, Stapo, Fergo and Vave all had great games. We can't blame this on the kids.

Tautai has played nearly all of his' first grade football at wing.

He ius being played in centre and found out, why not move Fergo to centre and Tautai to Wing?

Also I agree that Wright should be back playing centre

Brisbane, it's crap
It wasn't that the Broncos were strong. It was too easy for them to score against a side that wasn't really playing. Yuck I hate all this Bronco tripe. The broncos scored easy easy tries, it wasn't like it was a huge effort on their part. In saying that......I'm still gobsmacked as to why our side played they way they did....or didn't play shall I say.
One more thing...please please please....stop bashing the sharks on the forums ok people? Oh yes......and at the games too! You call yourselves supporters?? Where's the support when you're yelling at Barrett to go back to the Dragons. Give me a break!!! I was front row and centre for the Sharks V Broncos game yesterday and from our own "supporters" they were slagging the team. I'm disgusted and dissapointed.

If Fergo is a centre surely we have a better wing option than Tautai?

Who do you reckon would win a race out of Tautai and Covell?

I'm not really going to go through this thread and read most of the replies, because just like any loss, people on here jump on pretty much every hate and dropping band wagon.

While the loss was dire, the signs were there. We got rolled in Round 1 by errors and piggy back penalties. When we turned that around, we actually we're all over the Broncos.

I don't want to hear from any journo that our attack is weak. It's far from weak. We scored 3 tries (should have been 4 with Fergo's being given) in one half. That's pretty impressive. Every time we were in the position to score we looked like scoring. This was never the case when our attack was weak.

What was weak was our defense. Has been before the Manly game. While we give away penalties and give up 65% of possession in the first half, the Broncos should have not scored 32 points. They scored pretty much in each first set they were down there. That's a disgraceful effort. That edge with Pomeroy on it is so weak. The Broncos had a field day down there. He's got to be given the flick because he can break tackles we all agree with that but he can't tackle, he's poor positionally, can't catch and can't pass. Ferguson is too poor positionally in defence to have Pomeroy inside him.

The wins are there to take, we just need to tighten up, cut out the penalties and play an even percentage game with the opposition. If we do that, we'll win. You can see that.

My team against the Knights would be;

1. Nathan Stapleton
2. Isaac Gordon
3. Dean Collis
4. Matthew Wright
5. Blake Ferguson
6. Trent Barrett
7. Tim Smith
8. Kade Snowden
9. John Morris
10. Luke Douglas
11. Grant Millington
12. Anthony Tupou
13. Paul Gallen

14. Paul Aiton
15. Broderwrick Wright
16. Adam Cuthbertson
17. Siosia Va Ve

Pointers that should happen with that team - Va Ve getting more minutes. Been saying this since his debut. Aiton to get more minutes, I've caved to this idea, we looked sharp with him darting around.

Ferguson can't be a centre. I can't stress this enough. He's not ready for it and he's the best winger we have. You have to play him there. Awesome finisher.

The only change I would make would be sending Pommers back to reserve grade.
He shows glimpses of looking like he can play at times but overall he is deadset hopeless. Even when they were short on his side, why wouldn't call your inside guys over?? If Collis is fit, he can slot straight in. Tautai did not have a great game & also got turned inside out in D, yet will persist for now. Lets face it, Sharks will be flat out avoiding the spoon in 2010, so can only really build for the future.
Cordoba obviously a forced change.
Agree that Fergo should be left on the wing.

I disagree with most of that. The Broncos were really good and would have beaten most sides with a performance like that. Their completion rate was second to none and their stars were firing. I do agree we didnt show up though and probably would have lost to any team anyway.

This brings me to the other reason I disagree with you. Last year I was pleading for us not to bash the Sharks because in the second half of the year we just didnt have a team that could play first grade due to all the injuries and other reasons but they still busted their guts and competed and almost one multiple games. Slagging them only showed that you didnt understand the situation. This year is different. This year they started the year with a team that would be lucky to make the 8 but would win games every now and then and may just miss out. But they are continually dropping the ball and playing hopelessly. The fans have been showing up despite this (not in huge numbers but impressive considering our position and the weather) but our team has still not shown up.

The specific example you mention though is completely uncalled for. Blaming one player like Barrett (who has been ne of the few giving his all) is disgusting and gives the rest of us bad names. Makes us no better than the Dragons fans who did the same thing to him when he was there.

Heard they started the race on thursday and are still going...

Wilson I agree with your team but Collis is going to be out until round 9 or 10 as far as I know so I would try Albert Kelly there.

Well this crap was pretty hard to watch yesterday. Refs arse raped us, and we made too many mistakes. Lucky I couldn't remember much of the game as I was pissed by half time but it was good to see all the Sharks supporters turn up pitty the boys didn't perform very well.
