Great to get away with the win last night.... But bloody hell, we've still only put 74 points on the board ( and very few of those points came from genuinely classy or refined ball play) in 5 games. Our Defence is the only thing keeping up in these matches , and it's just not sustainable. For me, I am not getting too excited until I see us blow away a couple of teams with 20+ points on the board. We've struggled to post points in recent years, and so far 2012 is no different.

It doesn't worry me at all, I will take a season like 08 over a season like souths usually have scoring 30 points a game but missing the 8.

by the way guys, congrats on 3 in a row.

Thanks sandy. Congrats on the doggiezz

Happy to have won 3 in a row. I also would like to see us score some big points, soon. We will get better, that's for sure.

Just watched the replay of the first half as I could not see the game live. Great result to be 12-4 up at half time but considering how well we were playing and how much possession we had we should have been up by 24-4. We are starting to show some good signs though and while Carney is playing well he still hasn't dominated so that is still to come.

We are going to have to be that good and better for the whole game against the Dragons!

Seems we should have had decent half time leads in a few games, the fact that we can improve gives me hope for the rest of the season.
Sure, we're going to have to be better to beat the Dragons, but they haven't exactly been perfect this year either!

i haven't watched the second half yet, but after watching the first half i'm still happy with where the Sharks are headed. it's painful to see opportunities go begging and we've definitely missed a few over the last few rounds, but it is good to see us in scoring position regularly. it's early in the season and i'm sure a few more will start sticking as the year progresses.

From memory in the first half, Gardner was creamed just before the line early on, was a potential try. there was the Best big fumble thing over the line, quite easily could've been points. and there was the time we had them backpedaling and Robson the dope kicked for Hotdogs into the corner who was so far offside it looked like an NFL play. should've gone through the hands.

it does worry me a bit that both the tries scored were the results of ball play by the forwards and not the halves. Great that the forwards are pulling this sort of ****, but disappointing that our outside backs can't combine with our halves to get over as often as we need to be. Ideally, to have a true shot this year, we'll be needing around 4 tries a game.

I think that's our style, we obviously have a very good pack and Smith and Gallen have an excellent passing game and so we're playing to our strenghts. Yes we have Carney now but lets face it our backline is not good enough yet. Perhaps when we upgrade the backline with a mid season signing or even next we'll really see some more backline shifts.

or perhaps we're just focusing on our strengths and getting our D right before adding some strings to our bow later on ?

have final seen the replay of the game:

* we didnt deserve to win, we played **** for 50 minutes of the game. its just pleasing we did, when teams have done that to us for the last 3 years
* colin best was sensational. his runs were amazing and his defense was sound.
* robson was a set of taps. started well, then got really bad. his defensive reads on the right edge, as well as poms were just poor. they both misread the left edge tries
* morris cannot be on the field for long stretches, he was **** as on the weekend
* our front row ****s on everyone
* our back row, see above
* carney needs to get more involved especially inside our attacking half
* jeremy smith is on fire

overall, its good to walk out with the 2 points, and the atmosphere in bay 4 was ****ing amazing
but it was a very lucky win

i feel like manly in round 5 last year against us, its a dirty but satisfying feeling

How good is the top 8!

I was at the game, sitting in the Panthers members section.. Didnt if feel good standing up at the end clapping the boys.. much to the dissapointment of the Panthers fans, im pretty sure i almost got knocked the **** out a few times, hahaha, to many beers + Sharkies having a win = No fear!!. I havent seen the replay but from what i hear from my Brother-in-law, same as snow said, we were terrible, lucky to walk away with the 2 points. I have the game on record and will watch it tonight.

How good was the moment the CSSC lads came walking it singing and cheering, i was sitting directly opposite and as you could hear all game was the Sharks boys, WELL DONE!!!

Sitting behind the bench it looked as if Gibbs got hooked, he sat with his head in his hands for a good 5 minutes. I didnt see him to do anything majorly wrong though, did he?

Credit to the boys for the 2 points, unlucky for Luke Lewis, if he they werent against us i would have been cheering him on for a win in his 200th.

Me thinks Carney hasnt even hit top gear yet, great things to come, its almost time to jump on the Carney Express and ride it all the way to the GF!!!

Agree on all of this, especially the bits in bold. IMO Smith has been once of our best in every game.

I will add also in response to snowman ...

on the Blake Austin try I wouldn't blame Pomeroy. He played that OK. Robson came in off his man unnecessarily.
on the Jennings try, it was Carney and Pomeroy defending on that side (not Robson). Pom was just flatfooted and Jennings just got outside him. No blame there for Carney or Wright.

My main gripe with Robson was the poor short kicks.

Disagree that we didn't deserve to win. There are many factors that go into actually winning but the only one that counts is having the highest score at full time. To "deserve" the win, all you need to do is to be ahead. Getting ahead through penalty goals doesn't prop up our performance but it deducts from the opposition. And i'd go as far as saying that if we were so **** for 50 mins and the Panthers couldn't capitalise on it, then they are the ones who didn't deserve to win.

I think their third try is the only one that really pissed me off. From memory it was Robson and J. Smith that let that one in.

Like i said, i was at the game and from what i saw, Penrith looked the better side.. massive credit to our defense, yeah we let in 3 unaswered tries over 30 minutes (not good), but to hold on at the end and take the 2 points is all that counts. Another week goes by and another nail bitting finish. We come out of the blocks very fast... drop off in the middle of that race and act as a blocker on the run home to stop them... Im guessing another nail bitter this weekend as well. Good to see they are mixing up the kicks a little (well getting there), cross field kicks are getting us nowhere.. repeat sets and pressure is what is needed, especially with such a huge forward pack and 2 speedy halves, points will come our way in the long run.

They did capitalize.. 3 unanswered tries.. says it all. If Michael Gordon was playing and kicking.. would have been a completely different story!!

looked like morris, i assumed it was as well as it was in the middle of the field and not 3 in where wade was defending.

riff was insane mate, it was a guaranteed 2 points, the little one was in the bay with us.

the undefeated streak continues.

Yeah it was Wade, but from memory Jez and Robson should have covered it easy enough but didn't.
