Gal is the man to lead us, no worries about that.

I would like us to play more football when we get a penalty withing kicking distance, that's all.

You think Gallen has been instructed? honestly half the time we take the two is when the other team is out on their feet and would struggle to hold us out, the team wants to take the tap and gallen just comes in and calls for the two. And do you think gallen would listen to anyones instructions when in the heat of the battle? he takes over halfback when 'he feels' the team is struggling.

mate take your gallen glasses off and look at the bigger picture. hes a control freak.

Yes I do think he's been instructed.

And my post was about 'any Sharks captain', not just Gallen.

If you want me to look at the bigger picture 'boy, I'll explain it to you.

Your argument is based on the idea that even when teams are on the back foot we are a more than likely chance to score a try. My argument is based on the entire team at the moment and acknowledges that as far as try scorers go, we are not a team that has magic flashes of brilliance and is able to score tries based on possession close to the line.

We are not prolific try scorers, we are not usually prolific point scorers. We lead the comp in repeat sets and maybe dropouts (or so I'm lead to believe as I'm not a stat whore).

So when two points are offered, in the knowledge that the majority of our games are going to be close or at least low scoring, the big picture tells me to take the two and get the ball back. Or we miss and have good field position.

Your big picture suggests that we take the tap and then see what happens.

Gallen glasses (can I get a pair? Surely they are x ray vision) or not, I'm happy with what we're doing now.

If you look at the bench when we get a penalty in close, a signal is sent on which is the best option.

I have seen this many times with the bench telling Gal to take the two.

Maybe the coaching staff are reading the game differently to the way we see it.

End of the day, it helps and some times it doesn't........but thats life.

Don't mind taking the 2 points but Carney isn't the greatest goal kicker. Perhaps when we have Gordon kicking next year people won't complain about the 2point option

So we get a penalty against the storm, thy are on the back foot ( rarely do we see this) we have a chance to a get a try up on them and instead we let them catch their breath, only cop 2 points with a side that can score tries from anywhere across the park.

And we saw that they did score 2 tries and won the game whether we took the two or not. If we score that set it doesn't matter does it.
Now I know that is a big if, but how about we start playing some ****ing football for once!!!

And look, just cause your older then me don't go around thinking you can talk down to me.

A very big if.

With the lead we had, we should have been able to close down that game. Of all the things we did wrong that lead to that situation, the goal kick was the least of our problems.

But we would of done it regardless.

If we were leading by 18 we lose anyway but if we take the chance and score we go to 20/22.

We have taken the penalty all year and where has it gotten us all year? We play terribly when trying to defend a small lead IMO. We stop playing footy and look horrible. With a decent lead we continue to throw the ball around and it has resulted in our big wins this season.

Based on your argument you could also say that's all the more reason to go for the try when a good opportunity is there. If you don't get the try you go for a repeat set, eventually the try will come.

I hate the two points option that Gallen always takes. Its negative football based around a grinding style. I dont think we need to play that way anymore. Theres players and plenty of options in the team to score tries. 8,10,12 point leads are nothing against the top teams.

I'm not going to argue every hypothetical with you!

As for talking down to you, I referred to you as 'boy which is clearly an abbreviation of your name. Other than that I was a damn sight more polite than most of the others on here, yourself included, who resort to name calling and swearing.

My first line summed up my main argument, that Gallen is being instructed to take the two. Watch him when the whistle goes. Watch the bench. There was an argument on here about how Gallen is a crap captain because of these decisions and I think it's a bit shortsighted and largely unfair.

Sharkyboy, for the record, I'd be the last to use age as an excuse to talk down to anyone. I don't like your argument, your age is irrelevant and I made no assumptions about it because I've never actually met you. You joined in 2006 so for all I know you're older than me.

I've made plenty of other arguments as to why I think gallen is a crap captain. But I'm far too upset and drunk to make a good argument as this time.
Still besides these goal kicking penalties, I don't find gallen an effective captain and he himself has admitted he isn't a big talker. And we need one. The boys heads go down when gallens does. We need gallen through his inspiration through sections but we need a talker to keep the boys motivated. He doesn't do this.
