I agree it would only take some good form from a player like Wade, SJ, Moylan or Fifita to turn it around.

Just need one of those guys to play at the top of their potential and the rest will follow.

agreed

but i will say this - we need to pull the pin early

if moylan is playing like a ****ing spaz at the back, dugan goes to the back and capes in the centres

I like it. I'd even go as far as playing him on the wing. He'd hate that.

Adam Reynolds playing busted
Adam Reynolds could be doing it tough over the next few weeks in the crucial games leading into the finals for Souths.

I'm hearing Reynolds suffered a painful broken finger in last weekend's win over the Dragons and will play on without taking a break despite the injury.

With the Rabbitohs a slim chance of missing the top four if they crash in the last few rounds, Reynolds feels he needs to be there to steer the team around the park.

Souths are trying to keep the injury quiet - and I'm sure no rival players read my column so their secret is safe!

Did Morris give an update on Moylan after the game? With Fifita back does that mean just Graham and Gray (gone for the year) the unavailable players this week?

Topai-Aveai, Jackson Ferris (named but withdrew) and of course Toby Rudolf are the only other guys under contract who didn't play on the weekend.

Has Rudolph taken the field yet? There was talk about him only playing if they made the finals, but I’ve also heard he’s just about ready

He hasn't played yet. I haven't seen an update in a while. Original plan was "play 1-2 games at the back end of the year" and that was changed to "probably won't play this year". I haven't seen an update from the club but snowman might have an update as he and Toby cross paths from time to time.

Shaun Johnson halfback and Matt Moylan 5/8 I reckon we could actually be dangerous with the football rather than a bit predictable.......coach needs to mix it up more

Dangerous: Yes
Predictable: No
... Reliable: No
... Organised: No
... Frustrating: Yes
... Better than Chad and Johnson: Sometimes yes, sometimes no

I think we'd need a more experienced leader in hooker to be able to pull that combo off

You’re right Bort.
but the fact is that Johnson and Moylan are both test players, and same age as Chad so experience a non-factor.
if we cannot put NZ and AUS test half combo together there is something seriously wrong.
i reckon time to go all in

I don't mean there is a lack of experience overall, more that we would, I think, need the hooker to help provide some game management and direction.
A Cam Smith for example could probably go okay, or a Mick Ennis or Robbie Farah, Jayden/Blayke I think can't (at this stage) bring enough to the table to support Moylan/Johnson combo like they would probably need to in many games.

With them as the halves I'd like the hooker to have the confidence and decision making to direct the team around the park - not to say Moylan or Johnson couldn't decided 'we want to work to here and then attack this side of the field' but more to help deliver this, straighten the attack, simplify things when needed etc
Johnson is a good enough halfback to lead the team around when he switched on but I think pretty often he'd go missing for the organisational side of things, hell he goes missing for the X-factor side of things sometimes too and that's his specialty.

I have never agreed with locking Johnston into the right side of the field.

it was encouraging last week to see him bob up on the left.

More of this please, the more his hands are on the ball the better.

The halves haven’t been locked on to one side. Johnson has just been playing poorly and not getting involved. If you watch some of the games Kyle played and also the back end of the Roosters game you will see the halves swapping sides fairly often.

Is this because Johnson has been carrying injuries or getting gassed easily or is he just plain lazy?
