I honestly think that Toops was the only player that showed up yesterday. Suprises me hugely.

I felt like projectile vommiting during and after the game.

happy to see Chad/Carney but don't be surprised if that fails if the rest of the team plays like a bunch of merkins. Robbo is one of those guys who plays better in a team going forward. Don't be surprised if Chad also doesn't have the ability to polish a turd

That's sort of the point of Chad though. His kicking game is a solid platform to build on. If the rest of the team doesn't build on that platform then sure we don't win games, but it's a platform none the less.

Carney and Robson haven't been giving the team a solid platform. It's hard to say whether it's their fault or the rest of the teams, but in tough times at least one of them should be leading the way.

Pretty much sums up what happened yesterday.
We lacked leadership. Not particularly the halves, just the team in general.

Poor Graham. Really not bagging his leadership ability. I just thought we lacked it massively.

i can only half agree with that. that logic fails to recognise the opportunity for a platform to be laid by running hard and defending hard. ideally you want both to be working, but you know, it wasn't really a problem early in the season when we were dominating up the middle

But there is no direction when we're attacking 20 out. Surely that is mainly the halfback's responsbility?

Really? I think Gallen just inspires with his actions. I don't think he says "okay boys we're 12 in front and they're looking tired, let's keep the ball in the field of play and play field position and tire them out. Then in a set or two we should be in good attacking position and get a try or repeat set". Or "Okay guys, we are 20 behind and it's the second half, what we're doing isn't working. The Raiders have good attack and have put some points on us but they also have horrible defence. We can get back into this if we threaten them a bit more. Whatever you do, do NOT kick the ball over the sideline for a scrum. We are chasing points and need to start doing that"

We need a half that can think about strategy and help the team implement it. Someone to be the brain of the team.

That to me is an organising half.

Then other good attributes are to know when wingers have dropped back, know which defenders are having an off game and send the traffic their way, get the set plays going, change things up a bit, kick hard and chase hard etc.

You don't need to be physically a great player to achieve this, just a smart player and a cool headed player.

It's why Tim Smith was SO bad at it. His head was just not capable of this.

Man that game yesterday was disgraceful . I was about to go to the signing after ward but I wanted to drink on. Though a lot of supporters left at 26-4 and it was a mass exodus

Best is past his use by date too old and seems dodgy in defence, we ned a centre/winger overhaul, dont care who goes just need an overhaul?

pimp my backline please

Best has been decent this year mate in attack and defense

From memory...

Chad/Robson: 2/2 = 100%
Carney/Graham: 0/2 = 0%
Robson/Graham: 0/1 = 0%
Robson/Carney: 8.5/13 = 65%

Reading into that, surely Chad/Carney is the one we need to go with.

Hard to go off just 2 games together MB, need half a season to really guage effectiveness. I think Robbo won his first 7 or 8 games straight (100%) with Carney before the Rabbits game. That was impressive.

I honestly think that Toops was the only player that showed up yesterday. Suprises me hugely.

So he should, he has spent most of the year earning money on the sidelines. Having said that I am still suprised how good his form is and how much spark he is adding. Good to see.

Good call, I can't recall the last leader/half with a really good strategic brain that could adapt to the situation and get his troops to do what is needed.

We have too many that lead by actions and not give the words. My biggest critism of Gal as captain has always been this.

Laurie Daley always bangs on about forwards attacking in numbers, so the defense can't play "stacks on" the one lone forward taking the ball up. I think this has been a problem for us lately, atleast for the last 2 weeks. One forward takes on the line with no support so the defense zero's in, gets 3-4 guys in the tackle, and we all have time for a slash and another round before the ball is played. I think this is why Degois hasn't been as effective out of dummy half lately. Our play the ball is really slow, because we're too one out. Yesterday Canberra attacked the line in numbers every time, so they had more one on one or two on one tackles and quicker play the balls, and more chance of a broken defensive line.

Is this happening because as Flanno says he may have been burning the candle at both ends with some players, or is it ill discipline? Or am I just way off track?

Nah you're right. If you go and look at the games over the last two years where we've won and won well, we've had almost all of our forwards running forward off a play the ball and our halves picking which one to give it to. All of our bad losses are just one forward running forward one out.

It's probably the biggest indicator, and a very good point.

Naturally if we have our forwards as options on each play, and our hooker passes to the first receiver, and we also have Carney running as an option, the defence can't rest easy ever. That's a strength of our team and is why I reckon we were exposing the edges of the defence in our good games. The opposition has to crowd in a bit because our forwards are good, so if we hit an edge the holes open up quickly.

Could go some way to explain why our metres gained have been so poor lately. Doesn't help that our Props are not reknowed offloaders of the ball. So oppostion just has to concentrate on making a tackle and not worry about much else.

I have only learned what I know from observation, I stopped playing in under 13's and have never read any books on league. So thanks for that.

I don't say anything with any kind of authority, just comment on what I notice in games.

I've only really been properly watching RL to the point where I pick up on the finer details since 2009, when I got foxtel for the first time. So I'm still learning heaps all the time.
