Leaving bombs to bounce is a ridiculous suggestion. Arguably the worst decision possible.
I didn't say to just leave the ball to bounce. If you can get to it cleanly, of course catch it. However, if you are going into a physical contest for the ball and it's not near your tryline, the odds of someone spilling the ball are pretty high and it's at least a 50/50 chance it will be us. Where the attacker is coming through fast onto a high ball that is away from the tryline, let hime go up for it, then when he comes down, tackle him. The rest of the team should be back with the defensive line set for any offload or dropped ball.
I'll post some stats for you and Snowman (because of the comment about B. Wright being the best forward).
Gallen: 80 minutes, 147 metres. 44 tackles.
Douglas: 67 minutes, 162 metres. 42 tackles.
Snowden: 71 minutes, 87 metres. 31 tackles.
Millington: 71 minuts, 64 metres, 26 tackles.
Wright: 60 minutes, 52 metres, 32 tackles.
Vave: 19 minutes, 42 metres, 14 tackles.
Cuthbertson: 13 minutes, 8 metres, 13 tackles.
Tupou: 18 minutes, 9 metres, 7 tackles.
Good points Mark. What you may have missed, in addition, is that Snowden was the only forward to make a line break - and he made two. Whilst he made about half the metres of Dougie, he did it with half the number of hit-ups. So they made similar metres per run.
So I wouldn't write Snowie off, he had a good game. He missed that tackle that led to Penrith last try and I think that is what sticks in peoples memory sometimes - the last thing they see a player do. The game was gone by that stage and I think he just got a bit lazy.
From the side of the field, you could hear how hard he hits, both in attack and defence. He is an intimidating player for the opposition, no doubt.
