Leaving bombs to bounce is a ridiculous suggestion. Arguably the worst decision possible.

I didn't say to just leave the ball to bounce. If you can get to it cleanly, of course catch it. However, if you are going into a physical contest for the ball and it's not near your tryline, the odds of someone spilling the ball are pretty high and it's at least a 50/50 chance it will be us. Where the attacker is coming through fast onto a high ball that is away from the tryline, let hime go up for it, then when he comes down, tackle him. The rest of the team should be back with the defensive line set for any offload or dropped ball.

I'll post some stats for you and Snowman (because of the comment about B. Wright being the best forward).

Gallen: 80 minutes, 147 metres. 44 tackles.
Douglas: 67 minutes, 162 metres. 42 tackles.
Snowden: 71 minutes, 87 metres. 31 tackles.
Millington: 71 minuts, 64 metres, 26 tackles.
Wright: 60 minutes, 52 metres, 32 tackles.
Vave: 19 minutes, 42 metres, 14 tackles.
Cuthbertson: 13 minutes, 8 metres, 13 tackles.
Tupou: 18 minutes, 9 metres, 7 tackles.

Good points Mark. What you may have missed, in addition, is that Snowden was the only forward to make a line break - and he made two. Whilst he made about half the metres of Dougie, he did it with half the number of hit-ups. So they made similar metres per run.

So I wouldn't write Snowie off, he had a good game. He missed that tackle that led to Penrith last try and I think that is what sticks in peoples memory sometimes - the last thing they see a player do. The game was gone by that stage and I think he just got a bit lazy.

From the side of the field, you could hear how hard he hits, both in attack and defence. He is an intimidating player for the opposition, no doubt.

bastard, i think he was our best from a general point of view, gallen didnt stand out as thats what he always does, but i am very suprised reading thos stats that what he did.
i am starting to find douglas very ordinary.. his hands are letting him down... put it this way, if that was pom you guys would be blowing up

I do agree with that bit, whether I am being fair or not I dont know but he is one of the people I continually notice dropping the ball. Having said that his meters yesterday can't be argued with.

Edit: From memory the line break Snowden got was created by a Wright offload... Correct me if I am wrong. If not I am sure one was. Great support play from Snowden. Barrett was doing it all game also. If only our backs did.

How will the defensive line reset when a bomb is put 30m behind them? fmd.

Mate, did you watch the game yesterday at all? The kicks we contested - and dropped - went almost straight up in the air, they were lucky to travel 10 metres forward. If anything, they mainly went across field.

Also, if the attacking team can get to the spot where the bomb comes down - and they are behind the kicker - why can't the defence get back in line with where the kick comes down, given they are are least a few metres in front of where the ball is kicked?

Seriously, go back and watch the game again and see where those kicks come down and just how short of the tryline they were. Have a good, hard look at yourself while you're at it!:lmao

Geez mate you are very hard to please - yesterday Dougie made one handling error, topped the metres gained and was runner up to Gal in the tackle count...what more do you want??!! :dougy:

I think Wright had a very good game yesterday.
(Not saying douglas and gallen didn't have good games. All 3 had good games)

He may have not made the most metres but his runs were quality. He broke through a few tackles. Also sucked in a few defenders and passed before and after the line, creating space on the outside. Hope he continues to improve cause i've been a fan of his since we bought him from para. His not going to be a star but he is a very solid player

Douglas plays so similar to Steve Price these days.

I agree mate, he's very much in that mould, with the leadership to boot. If he stays fit he'll be the best prop in the game when he's 28.

Douglas had one error and 0 penalties against.

Snowden had zero errors and one penalty against.

Both should be commended for being that young, that big, that dominant, and able to play that many minutes doing that much work with so few errors.

I think if you watch that game again you may realise you'd confused Douglas and Snowden perhaps. When I watched the game Douglas was much more of a stand out and the stats backed that up. I wasn't at all surprised with the stats. You on the other hand seem to be surprised by the stats, and IMO that's for a reason.
