Why not play Vave - Mannah - Cordoba and Ation on the bench. Just make sure either Douggie or snowy is on the field with one of those 3 props. Douggie has showed he can play 80 if needed. Maybe we don't need a 2nd rower on the bench at all. Gallen/Smith/Tupou can all play 80 minutes. We also need to get our hooker rotation working. I like Morris he is going well, Ation needs more minutes.

I think the people that are trashing the Sharks, Iron, I think you should use the term 'fan' by all means, they are not supporters if after one game they lose, supporters do exactly what the word says 'support' . Win Lose Draw, It doesn't matter, at the end of the day we support our team our club, right?
The good thing about Rugby League, is that we get to do it all again next week. So heads up & start supporting the club you claim to love.

Dazz,

Knowing how much of your own time and money that you've invested in supporting the Sharks and its supporters I really understand where you are coming from here.

It is not just about being just a consumer of the Sharks but about being actively involved in promoting and encouraging the Club... being a SUPPORTer

The way I see, there are fans... then there are Members... then there are Supporters like you and they are the ones who tirelessly go the extra yards for their Club and it is people like you I have the greatest respect for.

Keep fighting the good fight brudda.

Respect!

atlhough not having aiton available for a week is bad news, it is a lot better than it could have been considering he was charged with head butting

Vave needs to get his fitness up and fast. We can't have douggie and Snowy off at the same time. Our front row rotation is key, we need to get that right. We also need the right players there. Vave and mannah are key to our hopes this year.

I think we were trying to hard yesterday and need to be more settled. Bring back the grind of 08. We are trying to do to much with the football. Just hold it for 5 and kick the thing. Save all the off loads for inside the oppositions 30. From the stats I saw we missed 34 tackles and completed about 50% or so. We can't win games of football with that sort of completition rate. It needs to be at 70-75%, at least!

I'd even look at rotating Gallen into the front row and bringing on a second rower when we sub the first starting prop off. Gallen plays a similar role to a prop (he has the past few years anyway) and that way we don't lose much. Then when the next starting prop comes off sub him for a prop, so something like Snowden off first, Bukuya on Gallen to prop and then Dougie off for Mannah direct swap of props. Smith and gallen playing tight is about as solid as you can get.

I also for first time seen some of the game yesterday. I am surprisingly not that worried. The start of the game we looked sharp and were more than competing with them when we completed sets. I read we were 7/8 early and finished off 18/35 completions so after the first 20mins we were 11/27. No team can win with stats like that. They just need to hold the ball, not rocket science that is needed to fix our problems from round 1. And on a positive unlike most teams we don't have injuries/suspensions to kep players.

What the Sharks desperately need is a good sports psychologist. If they have one, well they need to do more. Because after yesterdays effort they need to work hard - mentally as well as physically.

There is no denying the Sharks do not have a wealth of playing talent compared to other teams, they do not have the best coach nor the best gameplay structure and the clubs culture is frankly not one of winning and success. However they have more ability than what they are showing and I do believe that.

But they have got to address what is going on in their heads and fast as their confidence erodes with each failing week after week. You can't make someone just "believe" they are suddenly good enough necessarily but this team needs a serious attitude shakeup - even Gallon.

To turn up round one you would expect fitness to perhaps not be at it's best and for the defensive and offensive structures to need some work - in the sharks case alot of work and this I can somewhat accept - I know the Sharks are a developing side and not going to set the world on fire anytime soon.

But to drop your bundle like they did after one or two things going against you this early in the season is disgusting and suggests serious issues beyond just lack of talent and structure. This wasn't a weary final game of the season but round one after an off season of assumbly moral building and teamwork under a new coach - they should be refreshed but they looked over it 20 mins in.

It seems not only have they not learned but they have regressed. Something is toxic in the air that's for sure. I saw it alot last season - they started strongly then one thing doesn't work out and they lose the plot and panic. They self destruct as bad as any other team but they don't have the ability to bounce back from those sort of setbacks like other teams. They just spiral down and down "here we go again". And that's a quote from Paul Gallon btw.

I'm not suprised they force offloads - nothing else seems to work for them attack wise and they don't have the mental stanima to be patient and stick to a plan (if they have one?).

When this team holds the ball they can challenge almost any team and this we have seen. We don't have the halves or backs to play too flash but we do have a strong forward pack which just begs for a simple, disciplined game style -a.k.a Dragons. Get the metres and get to the kick, repeat, stir, drink.

A new coach shouting orders won't solve everything- they need inspiration, guidance & clarity and with that they will find respect, pride and passion.

I say it again - until they get their heads inline I don't see anything changing with this rabble of despair.

Club & players - no more excuses we want a football team back.
Go the Sharks.

First round of the season is no time to panic, together with the hype surrouding the blake ferguson thing it was also a warm day in canberra and emotions ran high on both sides.

However it seems as though we have carried our ill discipline from last year over to 2011, that does concern me. I was hoping after the first 10 minutes that the guys had rid themselves of handling errors, you can't coach that sort of thing Flanno must have been tearing his hair out.

Well said mate. That is the best summary I have read todate.
You are spot on we can't let one mistake, penalty bring us down and turn us to water. Maybe your post should be forwarded onto Flanno and his team.

I'd even look at rotating Gallen into the front row and bringing on a second rower when we sub the first starting prop off. Great points mate. I like the thinking around Gallen, would work.
