Should he have been sin binned?

Players get sin binned for pulling back players chasing a kick, this one seems just as likely to be a try.

Not that I’m complaining
Saved by proximity to sideline I expect, hard to guarantee is scores if Ronnie times his challenge better… decent chance he does though. I’m happy to call it a try saver

Yeah but does it need to be a guaranteed try to be a sin bin? That’s more for a penalty try isn’t it?

I think it would be unfair to the defending player to be sin-binned in that situation. He is to make the tackle, and the bloke does have the ball. Penalty sufficient imo.

I get your logic though.

Tohu Harris wanted Ronnie sent off lol, Ronnie showed alot of strength to make that tackle and get DWZ into touch and he brought him down as smooth and gentle as possible. It really was a fantastic defensive play.

So just ban jumping  (recalls Katoa's shortish stature, erm ok nevermind)

What if the ball has already hit the ground but bounces up and both players jump for it? fair game then right as long as you don't do anything dangerous ofcourse to tumble over the other player?

Yeah. Fair game on bouncing ball unless the guy being tackled is put in a dangerous position.

Yeah I’m not saying he should’ve been sin binned, I’m also leaning towards it probably would be a bit harsh but makes for an interesting conversation

Not part of our traditional uniform but perhaps turf coloured boots and socks could create the illusion that we're always a foot off the ground, rendering us untackleable.

I’d expect the NRL to go the other way and make it like an NBA dunk contest. Mini-tramps 5m out in each corner to create “more contests”. Tries scored from kicks go up by 7%; popped AC joints and broken wrists go up by 700%.

Yeah I’m not saying he should’ve been sin binned, I’m also leaning towards it probably would be a bit harsh but makes for an interesting conversation
Yeah - it is an interesting point. This one has a way more meaningful impact on the game than a lot of other ones that were sin binnings.

I reckon the refs make a distinction between this type of contest and the other sin-binnable ones, even if the rulebook doesn’t. A rare case of common sense being applied.

We tried those brown ones out years ago

Problem is they only work in wet conditions and after the turf gets chewed up exposing the muddled soil beneath

Maybe if he tackled DWZ without the ball it may have been a sin bin conversation.

You can tell he’s making a really conscious effort to minimise the show boating larky stuff a lot of non Sharks fans hate.

I did like when Tapine gave him a bit of a roughing up he chased him in field to do the same
I like his “show boating” to be more footy action, than trash talkin.

Someone might have said this already.... it was a Pomeroey-esque performance from him last night. Had some positives but gave up a couple of bonehead penalties.
