My understanding is an MCL injury he was able to play on wouldn't typically be operated on. Is surgery an option to speed up recovery time?
Or is there a complication or other secondary factor?

Or is my understanding just outdated being based on 18 year old info...

18yo info...I don't think we knew what knees were that long ago!

Why does one have to go? Both are good players and both should be retained.

In any hypothetical situation that involves losing one. Be it from Ronnie wanting more money, or keeping Stonestreet. Regrettably, it would be Katoa. You’re right, though. Both are good players.

Its MCL reconstruction so he'll be in a brace locked into extension for about 6 weeks.

It's like achillies or ACL surgery
You can manage both non operatively
But surgery gives you greater chance of recovery and faster healing

I assume he wasn't playing with a grade 3 MCL injury
Drastically increases recovery time in comparison to my own injury and advice (admittedly I would get very different advice than a pro athlete)

Mine was two near grade 3 issues (near torn through, near pulled off bone at the top) and advised not worth getting surgery on as neither is complete rupture. If I remember correctly I was 8 weeks locked extension and another 2 or 4 after until I could return to play.

I've always thought I bet if I was a sports person mine would have been a surgery.

Sucks though because I missed virtually all of what should have been a big season for me.

Sounds like it didn't tickle at the time it happened.
