I'm not for sacking Ricky, but anyone doubting Gus's abilities is kidding themselves.

Your living in the past too much lately mate. I don't give a **** about budgets. Ricky is a first grade coach. He isnt coaching to a first grade level. The players are one out with no imagination. There were a heap of quality players available last year that were not superstars but we recruited poorly. Plain and simple. Ricky has a hand in recruitment yet he continues to buy second rate has beens. Our roster isnt that bad yet they appear to have no structure or morale at the moment. That comes back to the coach.

That is not true about Stuart coaching to a 1st grade level as he doesn't have 13 1st graders at his disposal. Have a look at our backs. Who would you classify as a game breaker, maybe Tim Smith now. We bought Tupou and when Bird was in the squad our team looked great along with Seymour, but the club go ahead and sack players. If you did something wrong on a weekend would you expect to be sacked? Fact is Bird was proven not guilty but we got rid of a player for nothing. You can all say get over it, but players of Bird's calibre are not easily obtained.

Ricky buys 2nd rate players as he has no budget. "Our roster isn't that bad"? I don't know what players you are suggesting are good, maybe Douglas Gallen Barrett, Tupou, Smith, who else?

I will say that perhaps Stuart didn't buy anything with the money he had, but they should have made Tuquiri a 1st class priority. Furthermore we are using a halfback as a hooker, and also got rid of Kingston.

Why don't you go down there and find out the real story about who is being paid on the coaching staff, I am told some were not being paid and left.

The only time Cronulla has done any well lately is when John Lang was coach and we got rid of him, he went on to win a Premiership. We also got rid of Anderson which was wrong as well. Cronulla board has no idea and it has been that way for a long time.

I prefer to live in the past if this is the rubbish that is going to be served up, and if it is this way there won't be any Cronulla, you can look to the Bears to come back into the competition.

This season is over we will run close to the bottom again. I called it last year and call it again. You can come back and criticise later if I am wrong, that is the reality.

.

Players wich I believe are definately high quality first graders.

Fergo - Everyone loves this kid, will be an awesome player when he improves his' defense
Pom - played city / country, a number of clubs would probably go for him, his' catching problems should be fixable (as Beau scotts have been)
Collis - got to wait to get over injury
Barrett - State of Origin last year
Smith - Undoubably a skilled ballplayer
Morris - is a Solid utility definately should be playing FG
Aiton - Was one of the best at the panthers last year and has been good this year
Snowden - SOO quality
Douglas - SOO quality
Gallen - One of the best couple of forwards in the world
Tupou - Quality, but we need more
Millo - Has become a solid first grader over the last year and a bit

That is 12 quality first grade players, yes another 5 make up the team but players like Stapo, Cuthbo, Vave, Gordon & Kelly have huge ability and shouldnt drag a team from being competitvie to not being.

For mine we have a decent lineup which is full of good individual players, that are massively underperforming as a team.

No happy hunting mission for Roosters in South Africa
Josh Massoud and James Phelps

<EDITED>

WE'D love to be a fly on the wall when Ricky Stuart confronts Sharks chairman Damien Irvine about a reported overture to former Dragons coach Nathan Brown.

We've been told Stuart was ropeable about the story, and that there was also an icily terse moment between the pair when they crossed paths before kick-off at Brookvale on Sunday.

Irvine's attempt to secure Brown and constant speculation linking Stuart with Brisbane and Souths has plenty of people in the know claiming that Toyota Stadium isn't big enough enough for both to remain at the Shire club in 2011.

Sharks back Stuart

Sharks back Stuart
BY BRAD FORREST
13 Apr, 2010 04:00 AM

Cronulla Sharks claim they are not about to sack coach Ricky Stuart nor is Stuart looking to walk out on his job after the side's 40-12 mauling at the hands of a hot Manly side. However, after their coach labelled some of his players as "quitters'' - a harsh and unusual term from a coach seen to back his players in the past - the Sharks need to respond.

A week after a gutsy 11-0 win over Parramatta, the Sharks' fourth loss from five games, their worst effort so far, has been accompanied by a renewed focus on Stuart's future at the club.

While Stuart is signed until the end of 2011, there is speculation the coach and club could part ways at the end of this season by mutual agreement, and opening the way for someone like former Dragons coach Nathan Brown to return from England and take over.

Sharks chief executive Richard Fisk yesterday gave a categorical denial that the Sharks had "engaged in any official or unofficial talks aimed at looking to replace Ricky Stuart''.

"We have too much respect for Ricky, to operate like that,'' said Fisk, commenting on the latest weekend report linking club chairman Damian Irvine with talks with Nathan Brown, still coaching in England.

"Ricky is signed until the end of next year. And in the end, if we were to go that way, it would not be just a chairman's decision but one for me as well as the board of directors.

"The muck-raking is only distracting and destabilising to the club at a time when we are working hard to turn things around, both on and off the field. The coach isn't one of those distractions.''

The problem for Stuart is getting his side up for big games, week in and week out. The Sharks don't have a huge injury toll but a limited player roster made worse by injuries to experienced backline players, Luke Covell and Dean Collis.

The Sharks have overhauled their off-field operations to try and overturn financial problem but realise more on-field performances like the match at Brookvale on Sunday will see Stuart's future re-examined and the spotlight fall back on the club.

Manly, led by internationals Jamie Lyons and Steve Matai, ruthfully exposed those Sharks backline frailties in defence, both outside the ruck and wider.

That continues to be the biggest problem for the Sharks and Ricky Stuart to solve. And Stuart's brutal assessment indicates past loyalties, and excuses, have now run their course.

It is the same everywhere. Didn't Fittler have the full support of the board last year?

I’d like to reiterate my opposition to Ricky Stuart being our Head Coach!

I understand that we can’t pay him out, so I think we should all be asking he walk away as a matter of individual pride – I mean, doesn’t the guy feel ashamed of what’s happened on his watch? Really, Mr average himself Stuart Raper didn’t even perform as poorly as this guy? Caretaker coach Flano until we sort something out.

I don’t agree its cattle either because we’ve got plenty of experienced players, including 3 x starting internationals taking the field week in week out. Ive seen it before, the players dont want to put in for him anymore.
In fact, I do understand that Mr Stuart has a history of turning good players into worse players? Roosters – Monahan, Anasta, Myles, Finch all went from good players to crap under Stuart (plus he pissed off Soward) then they all reverted back to decent players after he left. Pomeroy, Barrett and Tupou all use to go better before Stuart?
