Obviously we have a limited knowledge of potential applicants and their availability etc- but the name I would throw up would be Scott Longmuir (I think someone mentioned him above). He got sacked by the Tigers for having a stink with Sheens, but he got Proton as their major sponsor in his 6 months as CEO. Previous to that he was their marketing and sales man (like Fisk at the Roosters) and from the number of people I see walking around with Tigers merch on (all around Sydney and NSW) and the image of exciting footy for the whole family, he must have done an incredible job.

Longmuir stands down from Wests Tigers
Wests Tigers chief executive Scott Longmuir has stood down after falling out with coach Tim Sheens and factions within the NRL club.

The Tigers released a statement confirming Longmuir’s departure after the club’s board had met late Thursday.

Longmuir was understood to be seeking more accountability from the club and in an internal email published by News Limited newspapers he admitted he had “ruffled a few feathers” by attempting to take the Tigers in a new direction.

He complained about poor structures within the the club and appeared at loggerheads with Sheens about whether to run the Tigers as football club or as a business, Longmuir firmly in favour of the latter.

Sheens was understood to always have the numbers if it came down to one or the other having to leave.

But the club statement said Sheens was well aware of what needed to be done on and off the field.

“Media reports suggesting that Tim Sheens was shying away from accountability could not be further from the truth,” it said.

“Anyone who knows Tim knows that he does not accept anything other than full commitment from everyone within his team and knows the standards he sets for himself.

“There isn’t anyone associated with Wests Tigers that has been anything but disappointed with the end of season performances of our team over the last three years.

“Everyone is on notice that 2009 is an important year and everyone across the organisation is accountable for their individual performance and their contribution to the team’s performance.”

It went on to acknowledge the contribution Longmuir made to the club since he took up his initial role of general manager of sales and marketing in 2006.

“Scott was an integral part of securing not only the off-field but on-field success of the club over the period of his tenure including his role in establishing strong sponsorship growth for the organisation and more recently, the securing of Wests Tigers star players Captain Robbie Farah and Kiwi international Benji Marshall.

“The board wishes to publicly thank Scott for his outstanding contribution and the many achievements and wishes him every success in his future endeavours.”

Just reading a little bit more about the guy... apparently he started his footy admin life here at Cronulla a while ago, before taking up that Marketing and Sales job at Tigertown? Promising.

Jeebus, we love to make things hard for ourselves as a club. Massive offseason signing wise is upon us, and now we need to sign a quality CEO as well. And of course, we're doing all of this while dead broke.

Well I am not going to say I am surprised the question was when as if I remember correctly he was only hear on a interim basis and his contract was only a year I also remember a lot of you asking questions about that back then why only one year.

So does it surprise me not really I think you will get more answers this coming Monday.

The sceptic in me thinks that icky put in some good words on the FS last night for this very reason he is looking for a job was he going to be given a new contract?

I think they are looking for a CEO with the credentials to run the new development as well that's my feeling we need someone that can do both jobs.

It does smell but could you imagine the uproar in the if they waited until after Mondays meeting to make the announcements I think this has been done on purpose so it can all be aired on Monday.

Due to the mis-management of the previous Board, I think we as supporters have a particular perception of our Board of Directors.

Our current Board is made up of very smart business men and women. People who are leaders in the business. These people are not former footballers who have been given jobs for the boys. Their business acumen is razor sharp.

I would strongly suggest that there are very good reasons as to why the Board would accept the Coaches resignation and now the CEO's resignation.

There are some things that are not accepted in business, and the Board has acted accordingly.

Fitz nailed it perfectly when he said they came as a package deal.

I understand that the situation looks diabolical, but I would wait until the AGM on Monday before passing any judgment.

We are not out of trouble by any means, but I believe we are heading in the right direction quicker than anticipated.

I heard Fisk on the Continuous Call on Sunday. It was a light-hearted call, but Hadley gave him at least a full minute to try to sell tomorrow's game, and the entertainment we were going to have... all he could come up with was that they were doing a presentation to junior teams. I know I'm saying this in hindsight, but I didn't feel like I was listening to the most brilliant CEO that's ever walked the earth either.

I'm all for hoping there is less to this than meets the eye...but how could they have come as a "package deal"? Stuart started in 07 and Fisk came on in 09.

By the way, excuse my ignorance but when was it ever stated that Fisk was here on a short term basis. As I understood it, he was supposedly the prodigal son returning to guide us to a new era of prosperity. Mission accomplished...NOT.

Former Sydney radio personality and Sydney Roosters marketing man Richard Fisk is set to take over the running of the troubled Cronulla Sharks on an interim basis.

Fisk, who quit his Roosters post as general manager of marketing and media in a reshuffle six weeks ago, will take over the running of the Sharks football operations, possibly as early as next week.

It is believed that Fisk met key Cronulla officials in the past 24 hours.

Fisk is no stranger to the Cronulla club having held a key senior post there more than 10 years ago. He also worked as an on-air personality alongside former referee Greg Hartley and Peter Peters at the now John Singleton-owned 2GB, the radio rights holders to the NRL.

Fisk didn't return phone calls on Thursday night. News of Fisk's imminent appointment comes as the Sharks board called in leading forensic accountants BDO Kendalls to undertake a full review of club operations in the wake of the Tony Zappia affair.

While the exact terms of reference for BDO's review are still to be finalised, it may include:

* A review of processes and procedures for entering into contractual agreements and other financial transactions;

* Assess any unusual transactions identified as a result of the review;

* Verify the validity of expenditure alleged to have been made from the Beyond Sharks Foundation for the benefit of the football club, and;

* To assess the club's existing governance and management procedures and provide recommendations for improvement.

A copy of the final report will also be handed to the NRL.

A Sharks spokesman said the new board of directors remain committed to ensuring the club adheres to the highest standards of corporate governance.

Meanwhile, Goulburn police were called to Clint Elford's home to attend to a family dispute.

While Elford, 27, remains in custody at the Metropolitan Remand Centre at Silverwater in Sydney's west unable to post a $50,000 surety over a number of fraud charges, it was the second time officers attended the normally quiet street in one day.

Earlier, detectives had searched the home a second time, seizing additional financial documents and other items.

Elford is accused of defrauding a life insurance company of $500,000 and using a forged doctor's signature to declare a terminal illness.

Sutherland Local Court heard this week that Elford is alleged to have given $30,000 to Zappia, who was the club's chief executive.

Zappia has since resigned.

Elford did not enter a plea and was ordered to appear at Goulburn Local Court next Wednesday.

Detective Sergeant Matt Woods said the case against Elford was complex. "We are continuing along a number of lines of inquiry," Woods said.

Goulburn police began their investigation into Elford five weeks ago after insurance company Allianz Australia contacted a Goulburn doctor, who said he had never treated Elford for, or had any knowledge of his illness.

Elford was portrayed on national television last Sunday night as a generous benefactor to the Sharks, originally donating $30,000 of a life insurance payout to the Beyond Sharks Foundation, after his claim for a condition known as Shy-Drager Syndrome, had been processed.

"We expect to lay additional charges against Mr Elford when he next appears in court next Wednesday," Sergeant Woods said.
