Is it any wonder that people are cynical about politics when the sum of most 'discussions' quite quickly descends into a schoolyard game of who lied first?

he/she lied
but he/she lied first
yeh, but he/she lied about that
that wasn't a lie, that was a change of course
he/she backflipped...twice
but he/she did it after saying they wouldn't
etc. etc. etc.

you know the ending of Lord of the Flies? I long for the day the adult steps onto the beach, the 'tribes' dissolve into individuals once more and everyone grows up a bit.

p.s. I have no opinion on Ray hadley's commentary skills as I don't get to hear him over here. Should I be thankful? :)

p.p.s this is my 1000th post. I was hoping for something a bit more insightful. :(

Continue to believe the lies. I really feel sorry for you and your other pro Labor idiots on here. You can't get it through your thick head that Julia is a dullard and she is going to be massacred at the next election. You can't see that she did anything to get in power including knifing Rudd in the back & that she was a socialist, and was also in the Fabian society, she is akin to being a communist.

Everyone here can attack me for all they're worth, I really don't care because I believe seriously that you're lacking anything between the ears and that is borne out by your GST and carbon tax comparison, and it will be proven at the next election when Labor are slaughtered. What will you and your other Labor morons say when Julia is massacred? That you are still right about your opinion?

Not sure that proves whether the policy is good or not. Conversely, would you agree that the electorate was right to toss Howard out?

Yes great tax cuts, what is the rate of inflation? Been to the shop lately, seen the increase in bread and milk to mention two.

HAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHAHHAHAAHHAAH

This guy has no ****ing idea.

Milk and bread are both cheaper than they've ever been!

I can't be bothered reading back about Joooooolia and any other moronic poly, but on one point I have read above...Steve 100% the Labour Party will suffer the same fate as the Queensland State Party. They say you can't flood a City and expect to win and election. Well you can't screw the country, make life harder for young mums and dads, not call a tax a tax which you said would never be a tax then introduce that tax but of course again it is not a tax, pronounce your country Awwwwwstraliaaaa...and expect to win and election.

Jooolia will be gonsky!

Personally, I think that cost of living pressures have more to do with the cost of housing than anything else, and I'd put that down to inadequate State Government policy in relation to the supply of housing (in particular the failure to adequately encourage urban consolidation).

Anyone who thinks electricity is expensive is having themselves on, or is wasteful to the extreme.

The biggest driver of the cost of housing is middle class welfare, negative gearing, low interest rates and irresponsible lending.

None of that helps either.

Although, some people argue that negative gearing encourages property investment and therefore increases rental stock due to more money being available for development. I'm not entirely sold on that line of thought though, as it has clearly been pretty ineffective.

Haha, 'some people' = people that own property and like to pretend they're giving a service to the public. Like it's a nice thing to do.

Middle class welfare annoys me no end. I'm glad the government is means testing the health rebate, which in essence is welfare. It means my family will have to pay more for its health cover, but so what. Everyone seems to think they're entitled to government handouts these days regardless of their income.

How did this start up as a discussion on Ray Hadley and end up the way it has...

But i agree, we should be entitled to handouts no matter what we are paid.. SHOW ME THE MONEY (Gal for PM)

I was kinda looking forward to watching the Broncos smash the Dragons tomorrow night, but i have just realised its going to be Hadley with Lochyer and Lewis in commentary.... Mute is it!

I believe health care should only be public but that's another story.

Yes, I'm a moron because I don't agree with you. You make great arguments.

At least I back my arguments up with statistics and facts. Real facts, that I can reference to credible and most often peer reviewed sources. I called you a moron because you seem to be so un-wavering with your opinions that it makes me wonder how you can be so sure on the positions you currently hold if you give no room for debate? Or respect for others opinions?

I agree the amount of handouts in Australia is crazy, but right now, im on the wrong end of the governments welfare.

My fiancee has 2 children. The father is a meth addict (among other drugs) with a nice list of criminal offences in previous years also. She has an AVO on him. Which has caused the mediation/custody situation to stall until that is sorted. She is on centrelink, and will be til the start of 2013 when she goes back to work fulltime. We are forced to live apart at the moment (not because of centre link, we could handle her not being paid the pension she is currently on with us living apart) but Legal Aid will not pay if she lives with me. I have a house (well the debt to a house) and a full time job. Somehow that makes me, in their eyes able to supply funding for a lawyer to take on a full custody battle. Yet heres the drug addicted low life getting all he can get from the government cos he is too ****ed up to go get a job.

This hold up is making our lives hard as we can't live together until thats sorted. I know i dont have the money in the bank to pay a $200/Hr lawyer. Nor should i have to as the case is between her and her ex. Not to mention mediation was already sorted via a family centre, but he went further and went to court. Not that he has any legs to stand on as a long history of drug abuse, offences relating to drugs, 3 DUI's, sacked from jobs for theft, making a false statement to police about being mugged etc etc.
How come the decent people get the shaft yet they are happy to supply for the dead beats
