My head:
Really tough start to the season and without SJ. I think we will struggle big time. I don’t see Morris landing an extension and with a new coach signed for 2022 we will fall to around 12th.

My heart:
We come out of the blocks firing, backs against the wall and with a few players with points to prove we finish in 7-8th.

So!
We are now mid season(ish) and are currently equal 9th on 12 points, 2 points out of the 8 (Dragon’s should beat the Dogs today) and start the “supposedly” favourable part of our draw from here on in.

First up the Cowboys. They currently sit just above us on 14 points but have a ****e percentage (-73 on ours) so beating them pushes us above them and into the 8.
We managed to be there or there abouts once SJ has returned which was our main aim and he now has a couple of games under his belt.
We have a lot of players returning (have returned) from injury and are in a position to play some of our better line ups.
SJ, Moylan, Woods and Dugan (not sure he will get much more game time) are in the shop window so will be looking to impress.
We have re-signed some of our youth so their futures are no longer a distraction for them.

Any new predictions on how we finish up?

I’m still leaning towards bottom half of top 8.

Cowboys
NZ x 2
Canberra
Newcastle
Tigers

If we win those 6 against teams vying for the same spot, we go along way to locking it down. Each of those teams have a harder draw than us, except Newcastle.

Our only really tough game should be v manly. Rest we can definitely win.

Storm do often rest players that last game before the Finals start, so our chances are improved. Let's just aim to not need to win that game to make the finals hey :)

This is a very good point - hopefully storm have locked up a top 2 finish by then ..

8th or 9th for us IMO …

Yeah definitely don't want to rely on it, but we would be a chance if they rest everyone.

Its an ok run home and they’ve done the hard work to get themselves back into a position to challenge for a spot at the bottom of the 8. I think we’ll finish 10th, but we are as good a chance as anyone of finishing strong and snatching a spot in the 8. Our season felt over about a month or so ago, but it’s out of the Intensive Care Unit and its condition is slowly improving.

Make the finals or not, atleast the rest of the season should be more interesting as we try and make a run for a spot. Don't think I'd looked at the ladder for over a month till earlier today.

If we beat the Cowboys on Friday we should be 8th I think.

Benefit of there only being about 6 good teams is there’s still room in the finals for a couple of the **** teams. I’d rather be building next year on a finals appearance and being the best **** team than being middle of the pack (or lower) if the 12 also rans

We make 7th, Raiders 8th the 4 point break to 9th as top 6 side will get more than their fair share of wins.

We need to win next 4 games...
Cowboys. Broncos, raiders, nz
That gets us to 20 plus a bye 22.
The 2 more games will get us to 26 . Thats enough

By my calcs, we can lose to Storm, Sea Eagles, Raiders and 2 more games to comfortably make it.

BTW, we have had our bye.

While it is possible we can win the next 4 a 7 game winning streak does seem ambitious the way this season has gone.
Hopefully the worst of our injury luck is done with and we can keep best team (minus Wade) on the park for majority of rest of season.

Just thought I'd bump this thread again to see how our predictions all fared.

I think we had pretty good expectations of our team this year and most people predicted us to finish in the 7th to 10th position where it will certainly be.

But when you look over all the things that have happened to us throughout the year I think we've done pretty well and 2022 looks much brighter.

Let's hope this weekend the cards fall for us and we hop into that 8th spot.
