I just think they have the depth in the women's game now for 16.

I agree. The standard is significantly higher around the world now then it was four years ago, and its only going to get higher in another four years.

Can be a bit restricted for numbers though. 4 more teams is another 100 off athletes and staff to house and feed.

Paris has trimmed number of qualifying teams for some teams Paralympic sports due to capacity.

But this is also a very good point.

Yeah fair enough. I think whoever is hosting needs to be able to cope with numbers though.

Take this with the biggest grain of salt but there’s some rumours from overseas on social media that FIFA are reconsidering football’s involvement in the Olympics due to the headaches and angst it causes between clubs and young players on the mens side. Theres some that also feel that on the womens side the Olympics takes away from the importance of the World Cup. There’s allegedly a push from a handful of representatives in FIFA to withdraw football and offer the Olympics futsal instead (small sided indoor soccer), which is showing huge growth worldwide.

Again, take with the grainiest of salts though.

Women's soccer probably a little different, but the men's is a weird hybrid of under 23 players with a few overage players allowed. I don't mind them saying lets only have world cups.

Based on the Tillies performances at these Olympics, I’m guessing they wanted the rule to have kicked in before Paris!!

The headlines that i have seen about that story are so close to potential lawsuits... The algerian fighter is a biological woman, born a woman has never transitioned her gender at all.

She failed a testosterone level test a while back and from what I can find about that case her levels were naturally created (no suspected drug cheating).

The fever pitch that this has caused with people losing their minds because the trans agenda (see what I did there) being such a prominent story at the moment. It is astonishing. I wish I was an algerian lawyer... i get the feeling they are about to make some defamation money

So more about the daddest dad that ever dadded that won silver in shooting with the most casual stance ever seen and hardly any equipment:

Dikec Yusuf, who only recently took up shooting after a particularly heated argument with his ex-wife, credits his success to his newfound passion for seeing his kids and a relentless drive to prove his ex wrong. "I never thought I'd be here," Yusuf said, shrugging nonchalantly. "I was just aiming for a weekend with the kids."

The 52-year-old, who works as a mechanic in a small garage in Istanbul, first picked up a gun during a particularly frustrating divorce mediation.

His unorthodox approach – no specialty gear, no training regimen, and a wardrobe consisting of his everyday jeans and a T-shirt – has baffled professional shooters. "He just shows up, shoots a near perfect round, and then asks if there's a smoking area nearby."

After winning silver, Yusuf stood emotionless on the Olympic podium and declared, "Sharon, if you're watching this, I want my dog back."

Absolute ripping story which I hope never disappears from Olympic folkslore.
