It would break their tiny brains over there. They simply wont be able to process it if they lose at basketball.
There's losing basketball, and losing with that team. There are some decent players in the Canadian team, particularly SGA and Murray. But that US team is the best ever assembled. Losing would be a disaster.

FMD. The slew of competitors in that women's Canoe final who were flailing about and Jess Fox just rocks up and breezes through the washes and eddies with nary a care in the world. What I know about canoeing would comfortably leave space on a postage stamp but she is something else.

The Tillies are out after losing to the USA 2-1, a much improved performance but the Americans are on the warpath this tournament, they were simply too good. They were still a chance to go through as a high ranked 3rd place finisher but Canada’s 1-0 win over Columbia but a stop to that.

Rumours around that Tony Gustavsson will be sacked in the coming days.

Can’t expect to get to next round when u loose 2 from 3. The idea of that even being possible is sad, like junior junior sport where everyone gets a trophy. Harsh view but it’s meant to be elite sport for a reason. Whilst Jfox wins another gold

My goodness she is a champion, so impressive. Love the way she carries herself as well.

Yeah as much as I like him as a person I think they need a new direction.

This has more to do with figuring out a mathematical way to get from the number of pool teams (12) down to the number required for quarter finals (8).

The men's draw has 16 teams so doesn't have this wild card qualifier situation. 2 teams from each pool go through = 8.

Yep and its probably the fairest way to do it with 12 teams. You need 4 or 8 in a knockout round and if only the three group winners plus one of the second place getters go through instead then there would be too many dead games in the group stage.

Classic Roy & HG.

Nelson continues: "There's many agendas running [at the Olympics]. But winning gold and slipping on a franger… It's just what we do best."

"Yeah, I mean, that's the dream, isn't it?" Slaven says. "To win a medal and have a root."

Hopefully the US getting a medal in women's Rugby 7s will put some focus on the sport there that we can capitalise on with the women's international next year.

The other way I've seen it done with 12 teams is to have the two highest placed teams get a free pass to the semi final. Teams 3-6 playoff for the other two spots. That's good in a normal comp. For Olympics or World Cup I think they would want to have that extra game in the draw. It would suck to fly over, buy tickets and then learn that your country gets a bye.

I just think they have the depth in the women's game now for 16.

Probably right. World Cup was 32 so you'd think they could have found 16 for the Olympics.
Can be a bit restricted for numbers though. 4 more teams is another 100 odd athletes and staff to house and feed.

Paris has trimmed number of qualifying teams for some teams Paralympic sports due to capacity.
