That's a disgusting way to treat your customers. You wouldn't take that **** from someone trying to sell you a kebab FFS.
Yeah as one of the papers mentioned he's been watching too much Howzat. Kerry Packer was in an entirely different environment than Gyngell though. People have far more options now - even if not for the football.

Need legitimate internet live streaming of games within country. Alot of online potential for advertising, ultra low subscription fees ect...

Even those who can't afford Fox probably have a broadband internet connection.

Live Sport is the only reason you need to watch TV these days

What about the last line

Gyngell was unapologetic over his demands, adding he would like the Broncos to play every single Friday night because it sold best in Queensland.
"Why wouldn't they be on every Friday night in Brisbane?" Gyngell said. "We just bought the game.

I was surprised to see Roy Masters endorse the deal, he is normally pretty critical.

I don't really understand all this gloating this morning about late night pizza and caffeine deals etc. Don't see what the mad rush is on the NRL side.

Also can't understand the talk of front loading of the contract.

I realise it's good to have the cash in the bank and earning interest, but you just know the NRL CEO in four years will be complaining about the situation he has been left in. Like a Ricky contract in reverse.

I don't blame channel 9 or Fox, of course they are going to do what's best for them, I blame the NRLC. The AFL doesn't let itself get dictated to like this. Weak as piss.

From what I have been reading fox owns the rights to these mediums under the new contract so I guess what that means is it wont happen and if it does you will have to have a Pay TV subscription so you can watch anyway.

As for a five year deal why couldn't it be three five years is a long time and things will change.

What a waste!

That's Gyngell's tone in front of the press cameras! Imagine how he would speak to the Commissioners behind closed doors...:bulgy-eyes:

I can't believe this crap. So pissed off!!
Both Nine and Fox Sports will work together to stage two player development academies to train players in media presentation.

I find this one a bit funny.

Sure, it's good for the players to get the media training, but chances are they'll probably end up working for 9 or Fox anyway. So really they are just providing training for their own future employees while getting an opportunity to hand pick those with talent.

Yes, it's a good innitiative, but it's sold like it's a big win for player's welfare when really it's in the network's self-interest anyway.

A lesson in positive spin.

Hopefully it's an upgrade on the media training that Fittler received when he came into television.

Heard today that telstra may not have the naming rights next year.

I think it was a AM radio station.

I can't believe we are going to be in the year 20 ****ing 17 and still have profesional rugby league games broadcast delayed and with no requirement to show them in high definition. Show me how many people are watching a re-run of a B-grade 60's movie on a sunday afternoon in HD. **** I hate Ch 9.

The TV deal could have been brokered by a monkey! Grant has been a complete dud since taking control and has been completely underwhelming! If he thinks he has worked wonders by signing off on a deal that has seen the consumer screwed over he's a bigger ****wit than I first thought!

What did it for me with channel nine was I think the first year when they said they will show every finals game live. They advertised the **** out of it then somehow the warriors manage to jag a home semi on a Friday night kicking off at 5:30. Think they showed it live. **** no. Bloody wankers

The more I think about this the more disillusioned I am.

The speed with which this deal was brokered and announced is staggering. It's like listening a jury listening to a convoluted and difficult courtroom case for months and then delivering a verdict in a couple hours. Something stinks.

The Daily Telegraph, despite reader reports and comments to the contrary (when they're published) are touting this as the greatest achievement ever.

All I have read for this season is how angry viewers have been about the coverage, the commentary, the origin schedule, delayed telecast, anomalies with teams having FTA coverage...

Now we get a magical amount of money and all of that is not only forgotten, but a good trade off, for five years nonetheless.

To think this will do anything but raise the salaries of top tier players is a little naive.

To think that this will guarantee the survival of all clubs is naive.

The uneven playing field of sponsorship from free to air inconsistencies will continue. Can somebody confirm my suspicions that even though there is a fixed schedule, it will be created by Nine and Foxsports and not the NRL?
