Looks like 9 and Foxtel will unfortunately retain rights and pay unders AGAIN.

Expecting a lot of news about this over the next few days.

If this turns out to be true, the Independent Commission have failed their main reason for existence.

Kerry Stokes apparently very keen. I'd love to see a successful joint bid involving two FTA games on 7 and two on 10.

At the moment there is effectively only 2 FTA games on. 9:30pm is too late for a lot of kids. Would be a huge mistake to not increase FTA games to 4 considering the big push AFL is making into Sydney and QLD.

Channel Nine and FoxSports have retained the broadcast rights for rugby league, with details of the $1 billion, five-year deal to be announced later today.

FoxSports confirmed in a statement this morning that it had retained the rights and would make a full statement, releasing details at 11am AEST.

ARL Commission chairman John Grant will hold a press conference at 11.30am to announce the new deal.
As revealed yesterday by the Herald, the ARL Commission received formal bids from all the major networks on Friday and the negotiating committee led by chairman John Grant has been meeting since.

Sources have confirmed that the Ten and Seven networks were informed this morning that they had missed out.
The Herald was told that FoxSports would pay $100 million a year, with Nine to pay $80 million.
With the New Zealand television rights also being negotiated, it is understood the deal will be worth more than $1 billion.
Under the deal 13 Sunday-night games would be broadcast.

i mean i cant really afford fox atm, and channel 9's piddley broadcast atm is absouloute rubbish, john grant and those commission dopes have just taken the easy way out,

i mean for ****s sake how many of you posters would agree most of the chanel 9 games picked have been like roosters vs eels and tigers vs dragons, who the **** is gonna wanna watch those games!!!

but now we have 5 more years of channel 9 darlings no matter how they perform on the field for rubbish games on free to air
