I don't think Sunday night football is that bad. Prefer them to Monday night anyway. At least with Sunday night you don't have to rush home from work like you do a Monday night game

But on the flip side it may keep families away who have kids that have to go to school the next day, naturally Sat and Sun arvo games are the best days for a good crowd.
Night games tend to keep people away due to the cold weather etc.

Heard on Talking Sport this afternoon, Ten apparently offered around 850k towards the deal with the plan of Showing live FTA games on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights. Apparently it was rejected. Would have been great to have that.

With the pre-scheduling, it is imperative that each side gets 4 x Friday night games (2 live & 2 delay), 2 x 5:30 & 3 x 7:30 Saturday night, 3 x 2:00 & 4 Sunday 3:00 games, 2 x Monday games & 2 byes. There is the first 20 games for each side. When scheduling the Monday night games, they NRL needs to consider travel involved for the supporters.

For example if the Bulldogs play Parra regardless of which ground, there is more chance of a better crowd, as both demographics are within reasonable travel distance meaning that whilst it maybe a later night than usual for a lot of school kids, it have less impact than say Manly vs Tigers of a Monday night at Brookvale/ Campbelltown.

It seems to me there hasn't been much consideration for those that ultimately make or break the game, the supporters.

Noticed also there was no mention of possible expansion. Perhaps it may be elaborated on in the coming days, but I hope, the lack of announcement doesn't mean possible thoughts of relocation for clubs

When I was living in Sydney about 6 years ago there was more AFL live and free to air than there was NRL. Sometimes you just want some live sport on in the background while you're relaxing or doing stuff. I think this has been a big part of the AFL taking off up north. People don't know much the game but they'll put it on if there's nothing else. Can't believe the NRL haven't addressed this problem in the latest deal

Have to face facts that the game is geared towards television now and thus dictates the crappy scheduling i.e. Sunday night games. Sunday night is the time most working people use to gear down and prepare for a big week at work. Imagine driving home Sunday night from a loss how crap you will feel and wish you just stayed home in front of tv watching a movie or something.

May as well tear out the stadium seats and just super impose some images of a "crowd" for tv purposes. Sorry but I love my Sharkies but this "sport" is becoming ****house.

There's hundreds of voices screaming at the NRL and within it right now but no one actually leading it or taking charge of where it needs to go.

We got a fixed schedule for 20 rounds, which is good - but other than that it's the same old crap.

This, if true, makes the decision to stay with 9 even more sickening.

FTA live games on four nights a week is exactly what the game needed. It's turning into a sport where telecasts are for the elite (I say this as somebody who pays for subscription).

Worse is the way the Telegraph are reporting it as the best deal ever, rugby league is the winner, a great day for viewers.

And even worse than that is that their readers are lapping it up :(

The Interim CEO of the NRL was on ABC radio this morning (I can't remember his name and can't even be bothered googling).

Apparently the broadcasters made it clear that a night time grand final was "non negotiable".

The AFL don't seem to have any trouble negotiating a day time grandfinal. Actually, the broadcasters probably don't even try it on with them.

If nine weren't happy with a day time grand final, I'm sure 7 or 10 would have been willing to accommodate.

But, Mr Interim also said that Nine have proven over many years that they are the best at broadcasting Rugby League, so I guess this "negotiation" was only ever going to end one way.

He also seemed a bit illusive when asked whether the Nine bid was the highest. I know there are confidentiality issues and all, but I did notice the lack of a straight answer.

Yes I heard this as well. It seems the only thing the NRLC were worried about was the $ amount, there should be more to it than just dollars. The exposure the game would receive from four live games on FTA over four days has to be worth quite a bit of money IMO.

I had high hopes for the new commission but I feel quite deflated after yesterday. I wish we could get some of the top AFL administrators in to run our game.

I know they are paying a lot of money, but how arrogant is the boss at Channel 9? The commission (in particular its chairman) is clearly a puppet –

as for the debate the Broncos already get too many Friday night games, get used to it."Why wouldn't they be on Friday night in Brisbane,' Gyngell questioned.

Asked if Nine would consider running both matches live with one on digital, Gyngell scoffed: "No, because I wouldn't do that. Why would you have two games going against each other? You can't get bigger ratings

When a reporter asked ARLC chairman John Grant asking why the grand final would return to a prime-time 7.15pm time slot, Gyngell chipped in before Grant had a chance to respond.
"Yeah, I wrote a huge cheque and he accepted it,' Gyngell quipped. "Have you guys heard, there is a billion dollars on the table. What do you want, go and have a barbecue in the afternoon and take $500 million? Let's be fair dinkum, mate."

IT WAS a simple nod of the head by Channel Nine boss David Gyngell that quickly made it clear expansion was not about to happen in the NRL any time soon.

I watched the press conference live. He was even more arrogant than those words do justice.

It doesn’t matter how much money the Commission has in its coffers, they are not going to grow the game with this deal.

Picture a young kid who may be a Sharks or Raiders supporter, the family can’t afford pay TV, parents can’t afford the $100 per game to take the family, Sharks and Raiders rarely get free to air TV games so he just gives up following them. In fact, he changes the channel and chooses an AFL team who are always live on free to air each week?

That's a disgusting way to treat your customers. You wouldn't take that **** from someone trying to sell you a kebab FFS.
