The attitude was shocking today. Set after set of four hit ups and a kick. Abysmal line speed, and maybe two attempts at a big hit all game. If there's any game they should be able to get up for...

I'm really not a fan of kicks early in the set.

Sometimes kicking on the 4th when the winger and fullback haven't set up yet for the last tackle kick can help in getting decent field position especially if the set is going nowhere.

Yes you sacrifice a tackle but if the kick and the chase/defence is good then you can really set the team up.

I'm telling you though, our team have lost the basics and fundamentals, in both attack and defence.

Its going to be a long season.

Absolutely no ideas in attack and poor attitude in defence.

**** we got raped in that left corner, should of tried something drastic to get out, mix it up. Take it dead instead of getting trapped in the corner then try a dropout for the sideline. We’d probably hit it on the full but try something.

it was just set after set

When we had the set scrum in the centre of the field and saints kept breaking early because they knew we were going to try to replicate the earlier try, we should have faked to go that way and then reversed the play to the other side.

Yeah thought we’d get a penalty, they broke before the ball was in.

Thats the thing not thinking on the run and swap sides or try a different play.

If the hooker had trapped the ball in the scrum we would have got a penalty, but apart from the opportunity to kick a goal, we wouldn't have gotten much advantage from it.

Yeah I know, I thought the Drags were just giving up a penalty to settle the defensive line because they were exposed earlier.

The defending team should deliberatly break early to give away a penalty. Can't kick for goal so you lose nothing, and it gives you a chance to set your defence.

A lot of over-thinking going on here. Poor ball control and a few unlucky calls decided this game. Spine did OK with the opportunities presented, but if you are spilling the ball inside your own half all game it doesn't give the halves much to work with. They also got unlucky on a few 50/50's calls, in particular the Lomax "pass" in the in goal was a turning point.

I thought Williams was good in this game. He got some good quick play the balls late in sets to let Johnson get some good kicks away.

I don't remember anyone blaming the outcome on that particular passage of play. I think someone else is doing the over-thinking.

Call looked correct to me

Pretty much, I thought both teams were equally **** and the ref gave them the win. In goal pass could have gone our way (was probably correct though), the simultaneous touch (although much later) was also bad but my least favourite was the hit on Clune being pulled back.
It was dumb because a hard shot on a kicker always asks for trouble but I thought it was a fair shot and we were punished for a good tackle and lost a lot of momentum.

They say winning becomes a habit so I think an undeserved win there would have been just as if not more likely to help us in the long run as a deserved loss will. especially when three of our biggest problems (Fifita, Johnson, Moylan) are all guys who can benefit from playing with confidence and an expectation to win.
And I don't mean like the usual Sharks bs of oh we can just turn up and beat these guys, they aren't any good but actually some belief in yourself being winners rather than the opposition being losers

Only just learned this last week, but I think penalties given away while a scrum is in play is a differential penalty. You can’t take the 2 on those

About 15% more energy and Dufty were enough to make the difference. Not much between them in a game that failed to reach 'meh' levels.
