You must have watched a different game to what nearly everyone else did (not me) because apparently Maloney is slow, old, useless, weak and added nothing to our attack. Go figure!

He hardly touched the ball. Its not working out on the left but there's no reason to think it won't given more time together. Would really like to see Beale and Graham out there together running on to those short balls that Maloney was working with the Roosters.

What disappointed me most were our poor finishes after our 5th tackles in the 20 minutes leading up to half time.

The game should have been wrapped up and put to bed at that time - especially with two gifted kickers in Chad and Maloney. They needed to bomb the wing so Val Holmes could have a shot - instead they took different kicking options which were cleaned up easily.

IMO Val was massively underutilised, and virtually the only time I saw him was when he scored in the second half.

The last five minutes was the best we played all game - and was entertaining as well.

the problem is mate we have no one in motion when he gets it. Too many times he got it tonight and there was just nothing on like everyone just waits for him to do something

I wish I could rep this twice, it's the same with Maloney. Everyone is expecting 2015 Maloney suddenly appear for us, but what hasn't been considered is who he had outside him last year and more importantly HOW they played. The roosters system looked completely different last year when he/pearce received the ball. On a backline sweep, every time, they had a prop running hard at the short ball, the second rower, centre and winger all moving at pace and rts sweeping at full speed.

Sure, it may sound like a basic backline sweep, but the biggest difference? Every one of them had the ability to straighten the attack and provide opportunities for their outside man. Meaning that the defence weren't able to simply slide to the corner and pick off the whole play, as they were so easily caught out by the guy hitting back inside on the straight line busting them open.

Teams have done their homework on us, they know that the short ball prop option is usually taken, therefore they have every opportunity to rush up and smash Jimmy whilst shutting down the prop. When they get it wrong, and the ball goes out the back it doesn't matter in the slightest as graham or leutele generally run towards the sideline, choking whatever space is left, and even if it gets to feki 9/10 times he steps back inside to avoid going into touch, providing more opportunity for the sliding defence to regroup.

Why did our right side look so much more potent last year? Because these are the type of lines that are second nature to Lewis and Beale and it was so obvious last year. By running these lines you force the defence to jam in to shut down the play and that's when you create the overlap. The only reason the stats for left and right edges were comparable last year was due to the fact that we didn't have a half that could exploit these lines (hit val with a cutout or kick in behind the rushing winger).

Maloney is a fantastic cog in a well oiled machine, but right now he's trying to jumpstart a 50 year old tractor with a soggy sock and a couple of AA's. A beale for leutele swap is swap is a great start for that edge and graham just needs to play a bit straighter. We also really need a finisher on the wing, but i'm not convinced gagan's done enough at this point to justify taking the spot, although he has been playing inside a god awful centre so it's hard to tell.

Great post PS. After last night it is already clear Beale needs to be in this team no matter what.

He is class and tougher than he looks. His defensive reads are sharper and with ball in hand (the limited amount he got) he looked dangerous, especially in that last 10

Might be a bit of 'Captain Hindsight' here but I really think by taking the 2 early on we pulled them into a fight they might not have otherwise got themselves into. In their previous games Bulldogs and Tigers did the damage early and it was enough. If we go 12 up inside 10mins its gotta rock them a bit. We had all the ball and all the momentum - literally ALL the ball! Not enough confidence in our attack? Not enough match awareness to see they're on the back foot? Just habbit without thinking?

Bird was a big loss too. We dropped off after that and Matai's night got a lot easier.

Our left edge is in need of fixing. If the Wade and Loots are gonna head toward the sideline then Feki has to go back inside because there is nothing doing a half inch in in from touch. I'm not too worried about that though. What worries me is that edge looks ****ing clueless in defense. Probably adjusting to Townsend now in there instead of Robbo who for all his shortcomings was a very competent defender.

All in all I still feel we're yet to click, and when we do we'll be alright. I just hope we don't take much longer.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing isnt it. You could win every game and 49 premierships with the ****.

The 2 probably was a silly move in the context of the fight. At the time i was happy enough to take it, purely because it was a gift 2 points to add to a converted try. However we were putting that team under incredible pressure with I think it was about 7 or 8 minutes of non stop tackling when we took the foot off the gas. Honestly if we took the tap, we coulda either scored or got a repeat set then for sure the defence woulda buckled and someone like Fifita woulda charged over. The break we gave them with the goal kick got them re-grouped. Had it been after a 2nd try conversion they woulda been regrouping but getting a bit panicky

I felt a little crook when Wade walked in and put up the sign to take the 2. Was like Gal was right there, inspiring and driving our confidence in our attacking prowess. It works for Bennett and Belamy because their blokes are cluey enough to know when to and when not to. It seems like a given that we'll take a 2 point lead and defend at any and every opportunity. I appreciate the confidence in their ability to defend it, but we need that in our attack too. I love that we can dig in and win a dog fight but if we're dominating there is no need to take it there. Attitude is wrong - we're not a broke footy side with an average roster anymore.

The 2 was fine at that point. Don't forget we got a penalty within range at 0-0 and didn't take it. We had a ****load of chances in their 20 once getting to 8-0 and couldn't get over the line.

It's a physiological thing though. I know if I was a manly player I would have been thinking thank **** they are going for the two

Regardless of going for the two we should have still put on another 2 or 3 tries and ended the game after the first 25 to 30 minutes.

This is exactly right. We should have been up about 18-0 after that opening 30 minute period. we have so much ball in the attacking zone.

Notice what mate? Your link is to the foxsports homepage, not to any particular article.
I put a link on to a video but it must have just gone straight to the home page sorry, Lawrence kneed Ennis in the ribs in a scrum if you search for a video.

If you look at the videos on the home page you will see a 43 second video of a knee to Ennis by Lawrence.

What annoys me about that video is at the end how Cummins says to Wade

'Uhhh we're doing our best mate.'

Like for **** sake is that all you've got? Can't say 'Okay, we've noted the incident and we will be looking closely for more foul play.' Or anything like that? It's as if Cummins thinks, oh well I didn't see it mate, better luck next time!
