To rest or not to rest players is a difficult one. Certainly don't want any burn out and wanna be peaking come finals. Hard to imagine we'll be in a position where we're gunning hard in the final few weeks to push up the ladder and ideally we seal up a top 2 finish before the regular season ends which gives us plenty of freedom.

You could even argue we've started resting blokes given that we've had guys who could play but were left out an extra week to be sure. Val and Feki have had early showers and a week off due to tightness which I'd reckon in times passed probably would have played on.

We've used like 19 players so far so I have confidence in the staff to manage niggles and injury.

Most team members would be playing with some degree of hurt each week at this time of the year and at the end of the year we will want everyone as healthy as possible. If a week off helps it should happen. Not everyone in the one week obviously but staggered. It helps the A grade and gives some experience and exposure to the B graders. We might need to pick a player for the semis that has had no first grade all year if we get a rough run with injuries.

we are a serious shot at the top 2, keep up some wins i will be happy with it, but no way we should take the foot off the gas now

Bellemy last night was saying when teams talk resting it is to do more with winding back the intensity of training, and to be conservative with any niggling injuries.

yep thats it.

I mean, if a player needs a game off, do it, but i wouldnt be resting any players if its not needed right now. we've set a club record for games on the trot won, we've equalled our largest ever margin, so far undefeated at home. People say we'll never win a premiership, but we are breaking records this year, anythings possible. Could we go minor prems and premiers? Who knows, but i dont think anyone wants to die wondering this year.

I think Jimmy's OK. We had a 5 day turnaround after origin 1 and again after origin 3. Wouldn't be against a rest for Gal though.

Jimmy needs it IMO. One of the smallest blokes in the comp, cops a battering, gets targeted a lot in D. We need to rest him at some point before the finals, just to freshen the mind and body.

Agreed - halves cop heaps more punishment pound for pound, especially someone as small as Jimmy.

i would give nu another start after this origin game for jimmy and possibly give gal a rest. Other than that all hands on deck. Come round 25 give anyone with a niggling injury the round off and get battle hardened for the semis round 26 down in melbourne.

I wonder if we were to rest gal Maloney even fifs and lewy, are you better off going say 3 games were they get 40-60 game time and easy training sessions or normal intensity training and sit a whole game out.. Wonder if flanno has some mentor in the background we don't know that he bounces ideas off?
Have to make sure we are fresh as can be and have another gear to go to when the semis are here.

Flanno said in a couple of the interviews that it's more likely he will scale back their work loads during the week than rest people flat out from games.

I think you'll see a period of time where Gal gets less minutes as a form of rest. He even said in the press conference after the Warriors game(i think it was) that the plan was only to play him for about 30 minutes total, until that fell through given the state of the game.

It's probably the right approach too, keep them fresh and motivated for game day where they can put in the big ones closer to the end of the year.

I like the idea of backing off a bit during the week to rest players against a much weaker side like Newcastle, but I don't really see how giving Gal a lesser minutes does much good. It just increases someone else's workload causing them to become possible more overworked when they too deserve a rest.

As a general rule I don't like resting players but I think we could get away with it against Newcastle.

bit of gal rubbing off onto him

Hopefully we have a good start against them and we can bring some of the boys off early for a break

I wouldn't mind carrying Nu on the bench.

If we're looking good after 40-50 mins bring Brown on for Maloney. Gives Jimmy a rest and Brown experience in the current squad.

I'd also do the same thing in rounds 24 and 25 against the Bunnies and Roosters.

Probably just 60 instead of the full 80.

Which is not a bad idea.
