With our whole focus this off season being built around fitness and defence, I would like to think we will keep these blokes under 14 points.

Sharks 22-12

Should be a traditional bludger of a game to open the season. A low quality 12-10 to the Sharks is my pick

This thread needs an optimist. 28-8 sharks.

Must admit, nothing I have seen of Wilton last year has excited me too much. Then again, I guess he has only played a couple of NRL games, so I should cut him a break. I haven’t seen any of the trial games this year. How does he seem to be going? Defence? Attack? Is he hitting the line hard etc.

To me, he looks like a hard worker and will have impact, just not eye catching type with big hits or stepping - I reckon he will keep getting better

I've seen him do some decent stepping - his try vs Dragons in trial a recent example
Someone who watches Jets more than me might be able to add more but I think his feet are pretty quick.
Given Nikora seems to have all but stagnated I think Wilton is probably not very far below him currently and with higher potential upside.

Yep, wouldn't take much of a showing from an up and comer like Wilton to at least get a shot at firstgrade over Nikora.
At least Kennedy looked like he was trying to add more oomph to his game and stave of a stint in the lower grades

Wilton is solid and consistent - which makes him more appealing than Nikora who only on occasion looks like he wants to be there

Wilton offers more versatility too. Can cover the middle better than Nikora and can play centre, though Nikora could probably handle centre too.

Wiltons also 2 years younger than Nikora remember.

Think in the good Jets 2019 season he ended up on the bench but he was only 20 late that year so still good effort to hold a spot in the team. From memory he started a lot more often earlier in the year, including playing some 13.
Talakai was also on the bench

any prediction of a typical media trashing the sharks get prior to an opening of a season; some controversy

surely the media is constructing something for after team lists are announced next week to derail:lmao

bankruptcy
development to go under
drugs program explaining why sharks look fit
breaching salary cap
steroid use
bizarre love triangle between players and wives; assaults galore
one of the sharks players sprints down cronulla mall against a random and pulls a hammy...

cue James hopper next week I reckon....get on it someones gonna write something

Thanks everyone for filling me in on Wilton. Was a bit harsh of me judging him on his impact from just a couple of games last year. If he is solid and consistent thats a big plus for us. As Gards said, Nikora didn’t even look like he wanted to be out there playing at all for the majority of last year

Nikora has played centre in-game. It hasn’t been pretty.

Wilton? He started 2019 in 20’s, and when he came to the Jets he played mostly off the bench to start the year. He was starting by round 8 or so, but they put him back on the bench later in the year because Soro came back down.

Talakai rarely played off the bench. He was their best player. He did miss some time injured late in the year though so may have come back in to the side via the bench.
