Second Brisbane team is the most sensible but I'd rather see us expand. (I know it's not the right move and I don't expect it atleast for now)

When was that? Was it a caller or a host that said that?

I remember Zappia wanting to move half the games up there in 2009, but I thought it was the clubs decission not to pursue it any further around the same time that Zappia got the arse and we elected a new board.

At one stage I think the NRL were trying to encourage a Sydney team to move up there with a cash incentive of a few million, but I think they withdrew that before we were looking at it.

why would the club be looking to relocate when they have just signed off on their future with the development of all the land surrounding the stadium?

Obviously would have been an old discussion. Guessing back when we were pretty much on the verge of default and closure.

In 09 Zappia wanted to move 5 games to Gosford.

Plus at that stage we were moving 1 to Adelaide.

NRL knocked it on the head because it wasnt a full relocation.

Thank ***** they did, because that arrangement would of been a bigger disaster then the Northern Eagles.

The bitter former Norths supporter who now follows the Storm.

Someone should point out to him who owns the Storm and the events which led to Norths getting booted...:ridiculed

The irony.:inyouget

dont understand why some want cronulla out of the comp the club has enough support to survive a ok base to build on with membership.....the nrl is a strong comp and its 16 clubs look secure to me

all the nrl has to look at now is creating 2 more clubs that can 1 spread the game i.e perth and that second brisbane team sounds like a good idea.

i remember gordan tallis saying move the sahkrs to perth but i think thats rubbish NRL needs 18 clubs not 16 to spread the game and make the league stronger short term pain for long term gain

So V'landys has come out and said two things recently.

1) There are zero plans for a WA team.
2) There will likely be a new team in Brisbane in time for 2023 which is when the next rights come up. So a 17 team comp.

They'll almost definitely go to 18 teams at some point, wonder what they're thinking in terms of location.

Team 18 will be interesting. A third QLD side for team 17 should be easy enough to fill with players of a decent enough standard, but 18 could be PNG, Tonga or NZ if they're happy with a development approach. Where else could you have them?

Has to be WA or NZ, I wouldn't think PNG or Tonga would be viable.
But if you can get pacific island teams in other comps like NSW/Qld Cups and keep their National sides strong like Tonga is currently you will attract many more strong participants away from Rugby Union.

WA would have a lot of the same problems as Melbourne to get started, and like new franchises for sport often do, will struggle until we can string some success together to catch the interest of the general public.
A team in WA would start from a better base than a team in Melbourne did - the Victoria state side is only just now catching up to the WA side. WA has won 16 out of 21 'Affiliated states' Championships including 2010 through to 2018 (Vic did win 2019).
Not saying these are NRL players but just shows despite being another AFL state we have much better League here. There have also been more players begin in the WA system and move into NRL than Vic players.
