2nd club in Melbourne in 6-8 years time is a certain thing in my opinion surely the nrl must look at going into WA a team there , with the afl growing the nrl must look at expansion.

I think WA is our best bet in regards to expansion. We need to spread across Australia.

HB i think you underestimate the way the sport has grown in victoria the storm have great crowds ( i get along to a few games a year even though im more of a sharks fan ) and no tto mention 202,000 like on facebook :)

seriosuly i think its real chance give it 6-8 years second team in Victoria/Melb is a real chance NRL needs to open its eyes more take risks like the AFL has done. The storm are almost as popular as some lower tier AFL clubs....

Before there's a second team in Melbourne there will a second Brisbane team and NZ team, plus teams in Central Coast, Perth and Adelaide and that's without giving it much thought. That's five already. I like your enthusiasm but there won't be a second team in Melbourne.

My top priorities would be Perth, Adeliade, second Brisbane team, then second New Zealand team.

A second Melbourne team? Seriously?

I dont see that ever happening - even if we have a 30 team comp.

Perth is a certainty if we go to 18 teams, and I reckon QLD will get the other.

I'm not that keen on another Brissy team - I would prefer Rockhampton.

As for PNG - definitely should looking at them long term. First step for them, though, is to host 1 NRL game.

PNG? No way.

Keep it as it is, No need for an expansion. It's harder enough for Sharks to win the premiership with 16 teams let alone adding more in :glasses-cool:

I understand the idea for growth purposes, but I absolutely hate the idea of expansion.

The latest two teams coming into the AFL, although yes have expanded the game and the business, they really kill the integral, original faithful clubs. Each week I see Gold Coast and GWS I can't give a rats arse, and it makes the ol battlers like North Melbourne, Port and Western Bulldogs seem less significant.

Storm are definitely growing down here, Slater and Cronk are household names, but there is no need to bring in another side. The only way I could see more teams successfully coming into the NRL is at the expense of others, and we all know who would be on the top of everyone's list.

Agree with a lot of that but I don't think there's much doubt we will have an 18 team comp very soon, with the new teams being a second Brisbane team and a team in Perth, both to please broadcasters.

I'd love to see a West Coast Diggers or something, with mining being pretty big over in WA. And maybe a central Qld team.

Would love for it to happen but it just won't work.
why league is their national sport, their government is prepared to help finance the team, they would pack out their stadium at every home game. so why will it not work? makes a lot more sense to me than 2nd melbourne team

WA is extremely likely.

A second QLD team makes financial sense.

A PNG team is the smokey, a fan favourite but right now unlikely.

I'd prefer a 2nd NZ team over QLD
