So players aren’t allowed to return to training within that time after their last game of the season?

Or clubs can’t request players to return to training within that time after the last game of tue season?
No idea. I've tried to find the CBA but it doesn't appear to be online.

I admittedly don't know the specifics, but there are rules and it makes sense Gutho and Nicho don't return on the same week.

There is a mandatory (negotiated in CBA) minimum rest period ... but I have seen things referenced in the past which suggest there may we ways around it (either in certain circumstances or with approval). However it is likely the case most (probably all) clubs recognise accepting the CBA timeframe is in players best interest. I would imagine the clubs accept, respect and even encourage certain length breaks to be hit.
Example of someone coming back early https://www.nrl.com/news/2023/12/06/genuine-winner-crichton-makes-early-statement-of-intent/
The main thing here imo isn't even he came early but how late he was expected and that the club would have seemingly also been just fine with that.

There is also some different rules around return to structured training depending how many full NRL preseasons you have done and believe even how many you have done with that club.
It tends to be very fitness focused in early preseason and I guess one factor is someone like Nicho can be trusted to do a suitable amount of his own base level fitness over his break.
Vs testing out and building up the younger guys - and the guys literally on train and trial gigs to make the main squad.

While not returning to the squad training we do know Nicho and the halves did something
Suggests while there are some rules around full squad training there may be more relaxed rules around smaller scale specific stuff

NRL rules seem fairly relaxed compared to NFL for example, but that doesn't mean we need to take it as a bad sign our squad don't voluntarily give up big chunks of their offseason.

Ok thanks @Vichyssoise and @bort

I really like that gutho is back at training and setting a standard at the club and I’m sure the young guys at the club are benefitting from him being there for early pre season training.

I trust sharks have a gutho also in the squad

While I fully get what you're saying about liking he is there it is almost certainly more impacted by the fact both he and the dragons sucked last season rather than anything Nicho should be doing.

Judging by the pics none of our true NRL squad players went back last week
There is a bit of a chance for some guys like the Puru bros and Sam McCullough (Flegg Captain) to step up in the meantime though

Upon further research, I've come to the conclusion that as per the CBA, it's an 8-week break minimum. But senior players are apparently entitled to extended leave (beyond those 8 weeks would be my guess).

We used to, most wanted him medically retired.

From what have heard from player interviews it's the latter. For example Royce Hunt went back to the Tigers early as he felt he wanted to be there on day 1.

They did, and IMO sharks were pretty much the same as they were the year before, and the year before that.

For the team to be on another level, I’m hoping they can lift this season. Does AFB alone bring that lift?

We don’t want the players in a comfortable bubble.

Regretted once he got a breach notice and sent to the board though!
I don't believe that is the case, just a joke

Nicho will be playing with the number 21 on his back

5+8+7+1 if it isn't obvious
