I am surprised headgear hasn't been made compulsory in junior football.

Headgear does not protect you against concussion. I was heavily concussed when i was younger when I raced bmx. Wearing a fullfaced bmx/motor x helmet

Are we turning this into a “which sf poster has had the most brutal head injury” thread?

Had someone land on the back of my head in a tackle, broke my nose and eye socket. Trainer said it was worst broken nose she’d ever seen, let her try put it back in, big crunch but only went halfway back.
Went and saw a doctor and he said ‘how would you know if it is broken’ and I said because it’s in a completely different part of my face. Sent me for a scan, they rang me 45 mins after and said go straight to ER. Eye socket was so smashed nothing was really holding my eyeball in. Managed to get through until surgery a few days later without my eyeball falling out.
Also first game new missus came and watched.
Only missed 5 games though, fortunately while my eye socket was smashed up none of it displaced

Never had a bad injury from playing, but have a lot of carryover joint pain / weakness etc, although some of that was from other sports or just men behaving badly...

3/8 games had send offs. Some of the penalties and sin bins have been embarrassingly soft. It cannot continue like this surely, will drive fans away

We should be recruiting dwarfs, seriously.

We'd get behind on the scoreboard early but catch up when the tram has 10 players sentnoff for head highs.

On the bright side Dragons will be missing McGuire, Fuimaono, Ravalawa and probably Sims this weekend.

We might actually win a forward battle!

Didn't Dufty also go off with an injured AC joint?

Landed on his shoulder. Commentators said it from the impact that it looked like an AC joint injury. NRL.com just says “shoulder injury, tbc”

He didn’t look great and the commentators said he’ll have scans and could be out 3-4 weeks.

AC joint can be a funny one but even if it is grade 1 and mostly a pain management issue surely a 5 day turnaround is too short.

Hannay's comments were interesting, about how teams have been taught to tackle high and it'll take time to coach that out of them. Those teams that change quickest and smartest to change with the rules changes tend to have the most success. Bellamy completely reinvented the storm side to be free flowing and fast. Was on top of the wrestle fest early, too.

What would a team and their tactics look like now?
If you're tackling low is going to be hard to get off the ground and back to marker. You can't have guys peeling off or holding on anywhere near as much.
Do those offloading forwards become your most valuable weapons?
Will the big forwards get even more found out in defence? Are they pretty much done for now with this style of play along with the speed of the game?
