with the new crackdown on contact with the head, no doubt 95% of fans would be blowing up deluxe on this seemingly over the top crackdown.

In true NRL fashion, the announce changes mid way through a season,

however, as much as i myself cannot stand these consistently shifting of the rules. the new rule i feel we saw coming for a while.

I speculate that the NRL behind closed doors ****ting themselves of the incoming avalanche of concussion/brain injuries and litigation about to be exposed to any contact sport.

a knee jerk reaction? probably.... will it get worse from here? positively...

discuss.....

I feel like they’re hit this issue with a god damn sledgehammer instead of the light tap with a feather it needed. Massive overkill.

I know Vlandys is holding his ground on this but this isn’t sustainable, surely.

The directive came yesterday. YESTERDAY.

No issue at all with cracking down on proper head high stuff but what we've seen so far this weekend is disgraceful.

And why all of a sydden can they go back 5 plays? If it's missed, deal with it after the game.

They are deadset ruining this sport.

as BWB mentioned in the game day thread. the potential for litigation to the NRL is huge, that cannot be understated, as an employer they must prove they are providing the safest possible workplace. no matter what category the work falls under.

the glory days of NRL are well and truely over.

what I found interesting was the refs (at least in our game) suddenly deciding to enforce the offside rule

that Dugan one in the first half was borderline when he ran off his line as the ball was being played - you rarely see that sorta thing called

then the ref obsessing over players in front from the kick off (correct call on Fifs)

the application and enforcement of rules in the NRL is so random and bizarre

so much **** gets let go or flat out ignored and then all of a sudden the next week the officials are all over you like flies on a turd

the Chad crusher call was a joke of a thing but still we need to learn how to make our tackles

the NRL are experts in bringing in new rules and interpretations with good intentions and botching the execution, over reaching and inconsistent in it's application and then back tracking when the negative feedback flows in

In our game had **** all set restarts. Was like one ruck infringement. They crack down on one and forget about the 50 other rules.

And there was a clear touch from south’s one set and no restart. They have 8000 ****s watching the game looking for a fairy tap to the head and they miss a clear call Like that . FMD it’s like they are ****ing retarded or corrupt, I’ll leave that up to you to decide

Spot on this is exactly what it is. The nrl would not give a **** if the players get knocked out or not if it doesnt mean they could be sued.

Head contact can come in many forms, accidental, careless or deliberate/wreckless. Now i dont think any player goes out with the intention of shoulder charging a guys face but it happens and it needs to be punished. The accidental one is the problem. Accidental will happen and really cant be stopped. Most the time its either due to a reflex because of the ball runner changing direction or in situations where the tackler is coming in and the player slips or drops. They get hit in the head but at the height of their hips. Thsts not something that can be rubbed out of the game.

The nrl just needs to be able to say thay we’ve got the deterrents, weve got the protocols when it happens and all players have a process to follow if they are concussed. This keeps the nrl as clean as possible when a player like Jake Friend (example just cos he has just retired because of it) tries to get compensated by the league for loss of income and ongoing health issues...

Is it any different from a soldier who joins the army and gets shot? You go into football with your eyes opened.
You can get hurt, it’s blindingly obvious. I think it’s a bit rich to make Choice to play a game, or enter an occupation ,
where there is a heavy contact , leading to injuries, and then suing the very game that paid your way.

Mate that doesnt matter.

Im an electrician. Are you saying because i am an electrician that if i get electrocuted and die or have some permanent health issues as a result that its tough luck because its what i do?

There is risks in any work place (yes the football field is a workplace for these blokes), but it it is up to the employer/workplace to ensure it is safe or that all efforts are made to make it safe. I am trained in electrical safety. Any workplace i go to will have its own rules regarding working on equipment. If i ignore those rules or dont abide by them and get myself ****ed up....they are not liable....

Saying soldiers go to war knowing they could get shot....please mate. Football players go on the field knowing they could get hurt. But that hurt isnt open ended. Just because its a contact sport does not mean players should expect to have ****ed brains. Alex mckinnon was able to sue the nrl. The nrl changed rules and sanctions for lifting tackles almost immediately....how many lifting tackles do you see now? Bugger all.
