The next task is to make sure he's involved with the Club next year. Admin/recruiting/coaching, whatever it is. Don't let him go. He makes the rest better.

I reckon assistant coach/trainer is his go. Much like Matt King at Souths. That way he can still speak to the boys during the game.

I guess that will come down to what he has lined up with Fox and what kind of deal they can come up with

Id say he will end up in a commentary role, which wouldnt give him time. Would be a great extra assistant coach though

I think he will have higher paying opportunities on TV, but I think that there might still be room for him a ms a part time coach for whoever takes over the hooking duties - in a similar capacity to how Johns is a kicking coach or Halligan is a goal-kicking coach it would be handy to have him around a day a week or so for Brailey/Nu or whoever plays 9.

Personally I feel that winning the comp takes a little pressure off for early next year, and I'd back that combo (Nu/Brailey with Ennis helping out).

30 years from now I'll still recall my mick ennis moment.
Was the Canberra week 1 final game, standing out the front of hotel with about 20 others watching the players get on the bus, kids got a qik photo with benny, everyone had their game face on, mick walked past me one foot on the front step of the bus, I turned around he was only a few steps past I called out "mick" he spun around I said " you have 3 wins left in you still mick I can feel it" his reply gives me goose bumps now after the grand final victory, with a wink "so can I mate so can I" with a little parting of thumbs up to each other we went are separate ways, and he delivered on his word... Cheers mick enjoy everything else that life brings.

Grand final hero Michael Ennis will return to Cronulla next NRL season in an advisory role to help nurse the club's next generation of hookers.

Ennis retired following his side's maiden grand final triumph over Melbourne on Sunday, but he will remain involved with the club in 2017.

The biggest headache Shane Flanagan faces going into their premiership defence is how to fill the shoes of the wily No.9.

Ennis's arrival in The Shire last year proved a catalyst to their success with Nu Brown, Wests Tigers import Manaia Cherrington and youngster Jayden Brailey vying for the hooking role.

The 32-year-old Ennis said he had agreed to lend a hand to Flanagan next year in helping mould his successors.

"We've got some great young kids, the two young Brailey boys (Jayden and Blayke), we've got Manaia Cherrington and Fa'amanu Brown so I'd love to help out those boys where I can," Ennis said.

Flanagan said he wasn't sure of what exact role Ennis would have but was keen to keep him involved.

"All the little things he does go unnoticed - his kick pressure, his line speed," Flanagan said.

"They call him 'The Menace' but most of that stuff is from being aggressive and putting teams under pressure, all the things people don't want to do.

"His influence on some of our younger kids will be massive."
