Had to give our Rosie her last kiss and cuddle this morning. Was a warrior 14 years old went into heart failure 16 months ago but with modern medicine and my wonderful wife was able after a rough month or so nurse her back to good health. But sadly her kidneys packed up over the weekend. RIP lil fkn legend

What a cutie. 14 great years I’m sure Vic.

Same as Sparkles “Cookie”, our “Toby” is very very similar (especially after a groom).

RIP Rosie.

Damn, too close to home. Kidney failure and 14 - just like my boy.

It's slowly becoming easier without him (coming up on 2 months). Hope you're alright!

I've been headhunted by my previous mentor (worked with for 6+ years). It's all happened very quickly in the last week (was discussions earlier in the year though there was no approved position available). 40% salary increase. Been at the same company for 7.5 years since graduating out of uni (small close-knit company).

Felt like I've needed a change for a little while, but now it's become reality and the offer is there I feel sick and a bit fearful - even though I feel like it's a fantastic opportunity.

Thing is I spontaneously booked a 3 week trip to Africa (in 2 weeks) so asked for leave a few weeks back - now likely to hand in a resignation in the next few business days for an end date of a week or 2 after returning, so it doesn't look great perceptibly.

Congratulations! That's an amazing career move. Don't stress about the optics, work places come and go and the market is in the favour of them recruiting. Perfect time for a holiday to celebrate and freshen up before your new challenge!

Thanks, appreciate it. Yeah I've always had a fair bit of imposter syndrome, so moving on from somewhere I've been semi-comfortable (having not worked anywhere else) is a little anxiety-inducing...which at the same time is why I think it would be good (just go for it - partly why I just spontaneously booked the holiday). Definitely overthinking things, but that's what I do 🤣

A 40% pay increase is enormous, that’s awesome, well done. At least it’s working with your previous mentor so it’s not going to be a completely foreign experience for you. What line of work are you in?

All the feelings you are having are perfectly normal when starting a new job, especially after you’ve been somewhere as long as you have. It definitely sounds like the right decision

Consulting/engineering. The new role will be a little bit more management focused in a semi-adjacent industry.

Thanks, makes me feel a little bit better! Everything I'm reading and everyone I'm taking to seems to suggest it is absolutely the right thing to do; i just feel **** about it. Think I'll feel better once the resignation part is done.
