I ended up getting my email, the process is a breeze compared to previous years (obviously a different company, lockerroom.com.au vs Mber+ or whatever it was).

There's a few little annoyances:
  • Can't change quantity
  • Can't easily see the total of the cart (compared to the entitlements)
  • No backpacks this year!
But the website is super quick, and some interesting new items. Much better overall!

Much better overall? It’s absolute junk. Give me $60 for the sharks store. They’re ****en kidding themselves treating people like us who pay hundreds/thousands of dollars every year with such disrespect as if we think we’re getting value for money. I’ve seen better stuff in Easter show bags. Absolute ****en trash.

It is **** but I think it's the same across all clubs, could be wrong.

I'm with you though, prefer the credit.

My mate showed me the Dargons membership selection. Pretty much the same kind of things to choose from.

It's a simple business decision - this stuff will be cost the club less and likely has a bigger mark up

I don't know this for a fact and am making the numbers up but I imagine $60 in 'merch' probably costs the Sharks like $10-15 in expenses but $60 from the proper store probably costs them $20 to $30
So they make more money off your membership by selling you these items - then factor in a lot of people would still buy a jersey or something even without the credit and they make even more

While you want your membership to feel worthwhile they are business and there wouldn't be too many people whose membership hinges on merch crap vs voucher, so they go the way that makes them more money not the way the customer would prefer

Yeah I understand why they do it from a money making perspective, it's pretty poor optics from a sustainability perspective though. It's possible that this thought process hasn't entered into the football club space yet. Personally if they can't do the store, I'd love an option where I could donate my credit value to sharks have heart or something. At least I'd feel like it's gone towards something good. I know I could just not select anything, but it just makes me feel taken advantage of to do so. Also doesn't overly help as they've already purchased the junk anyway I'd expect.

The $60 credit in the Locker Room would turn into $30-40 at most in the Sharks Store and buy a single hat.

It's just a nominal value.

I still prefer it, better than the old hat, key ring and $20 credit we used to get.

Locker Room prices. Assume $60 adult credit, then you get this:
  • Card/Lanyard (included)
  • Hat: $12
  • Scarf: $16
  • Water Bottle: $14
  • Drawstring Bag: $10
  • Keyring: $8
I'd say that's much better than what we used to get.

Or $47 kids credit:
  • Card/Lanyard (included)
  • Hat: $12
  • Kicking Tee: $16
  • Sticker Sheet: $3
  • Pencil case: $17
I do agree on the sustainability issue though, shipping all of these packs individually from China can't be great. But then a hell of a lot of stuff got wasted in the past too.

Has been said before also

Then what happens though? They have put $60 into there? Instead of mailing you $15 worth of crap - costs them an extra $45

Or the option to turn your $60 credit into a $10-20 donation? Poor options even compared to what you’ve already listed

I think it's a much better, more varied selection this year.

Settle down - you can get $60 worth if you want and just pay the extra $20...

I've done that the last couple of years.

I don't know what membership type you have, but I can't understand your star studded whinge...

Yeah I'd probably be in the minority but I'd be okay with a $20 donation. Or alternatively a $20 voucher to the store and they can pocket the extra cash. Even just having the option for these things would be ideal.

There's clearly enough people who enjoy this way of doing things, so credit to the club. Can't please everyone though and sometimes you've gotta be the displeased.
