Tradable Bits continue NRL expansion with Cronulla Sharks partnership GlobeNewswire

MELBOURNE, Australia, Dec. 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NRL team the Cronulla Sharks are focused on further understanding their fan base through more holistic data and engagement. The team has joined forces with leading fan engagement company, Tradable Bits to drill down on fan data.

Using a range of the 35+ campaigns available on Tradable Bits’ engagement platform, and Tradable Bits’ fan intelligence tools, the Sharks plan to collect & collate data on their members and fans, all while providing an excellent fan experience.

The Sharks will begin providing fans with unique, fun and targeted opportunities to engage with their brand through experiences built with Tradable Bits’ templated campaigns - including Entry Forms, Spin2Wins, MVP Selectors, Dream Teams and more. Alongside the Tradable Bits team, the Sharks aim to build a strong foundation of first and zero-party data as a crucial step to building out their fan IP.

Tradable Bits General Manager of APAC, Tim Mullaly, spoke of the partnership, highlighting it as a landmark for the club and platform alike.

“There’s incredible power and opportunity in ‘the fan moment’ and we’re excited to partner with the Cronulla Sharks to revision what this looks like for the modern day NRL fan,” says Mullaly. “Our goal is to use authentic engagement opportunities to help the Sharks build direct and personalised relationships with their fans, from the moment they first engage, to 10 years down the line as super fans.”

Cronulla Sharks’ Membership, Ticketing & Fan Engagement Manager, James Peters said that the partnership will unlock opportunities previously untapped within the fan engagement space, adding that the collaboration will lead to new and exciting opportunities for the club.

“We’re focused on driving high-impact relationships with our fans that extend beyond the field. Our partnership with Tradable Bits will allow us to explore untapped potential within the fan engagement space, and the experiences we offer,” Peters said. “Using Tradable Bits for our fan engagement and intelligence will facilitate best-in-class digital experiences with our fans, all while building new opportunities for our club and expanding our pool of prospects and club members through smarter use of our fan data.”

Tradable Bits. Doesn't take much unpacking but I'm killing time.

"Tradable"
- able or suitable to be bought or sold
- items intended for trade

"Bits"
- a small piece, part, or quantity of something
- A binary digit (bit) is the minimum unit of binary information stored in a computer system

We're harvesting and selling your data, sure! But look at this shiny new "excellent fan experience".

They got a lotta data and we got plenty of ****s to sell it to. Advertisers will be pinging the fan's phone non-stop - they'll be so engaged their retinas will bleed!

**** me swinging ****! And the PR Buzzword Bingo champion is none other than *drumroll* JAMES PETERS! Strap yourselves in & tell the babysitter she's getting overtime before this acceptance speech.

In summary; we (our data) are the 'bits' and it's being harvested (collected & collated) by a partner data harvesting company. They curate it & sell it to their affiliates who their algorithms think you'll spend money with.

It's pretty ****ed that they can't give us one genuine example of how it improves things for fans.

Because it doesn't.

I expect the Tradable Bits company whoever they are to peddle this ****, but not the club itself.

Missed this one mate:
"Alongside the Tradable Bits team, the Sharks aim to build a strong foundation of first and zero-party data as a crucial step to building out their fan IP"
Their IP - you're information.

Binary bullshit.
Zero party is the info you give willingly. 1st party Is your info they gather based on your activity and other sources.

Data Analytics is industry that is growing.

the software on offer is just expanding rapidly

i would love to see what algorithms and software they end up using to grab the data .

anyways on another front,
I am not a fan of membership merchandise. I really get it unless it’s the lanyard and card .

I would Prefer to spread the $$ on sharks merchandise over the membership merchandise.
I was disappointed massively

I’m not really opposed to the Tradable Bits thing. We are all rusted on, but we’ve got enough of a fan base that we should have more members and merchandise sales, and some of these campaigns (e.g. video contests) look like they could draw people in. I always think the club has treated the membership team like a cost, and cut it to as cheap as possible, when it really could be seen as a big sales opportunity.

As long as they commit to it and it’s not just something for a marketing type to add to a CV. And I’d probably prefer they had a proper ticket tracking system first... Probably the least of my worries is them knowing too much about me 😁

On the positive side they have announced a members season launch for Saturday January 21, so that’s at least good to see after almost a year of nothing.

Crowd attendance at matches is not the key thing these days , it is CLICKS & VIEWS !

It is not just a Membership team these days it is
Membership, Ticketing & Fan Engagement

Yeah , As a Sharks member we are already being tracked " to improve our experience " via Ticketex & the Mber system . As a nerd I tend to read/scan thru the T&Cs and the Privacy Policies before I sign up to most things . To me the Mber system has always been about data gathering & they take no responsibilty once your data is passed to one of their "partners . I recall Vietnam is specifically mentioned but who knows where else.

With the latest arrangement Sharks are just being a bit more up-front about it .

In relation to the Season Launch note that it not at Pointsbet , it is at the Sharks Academy Fields where the team trains.

Maybe the changed location is due to Pointsbet being re-turfed a month or so back .

Talking a mind boggling amount of superlative bullshit to sell something while never really telling anyone anything is a well established & also rapidly growing industry.

You'll never see the algorithm because that's essentially all their business is. It's the only thing they provide, and it's ****en useless without our bits.

Techy advertising data analyst start-ups with ponytails and wearing white sneakers with a suit can get well & truly ****ed.

Companies are harvesting my data all the time
Well for a lot it was government mandated a while back. Remember Abbott using an envelope & snail-mail analogies to explain meta data? How Brandis assured everyone you got nothing to fear if you got nothing to hide as only our totally trustworthy law enforcement would ever have access. Guess all those Aussies with Optus & Medibank had stuff to hide, filthy crims.

Just got an email telling me two of the items I chose are no longer in stock. Both were going to be stocking stuffers for the kids but no chance of them arriving anyway. Lol. What a mess.

Asked me to chose something else in lieu, but it’s all rubbish. Just noticed they are charging $42 for a shitty little plastic lunchbox. Hilarious.

Paid extra on my original order for a couple of extra items, so requested a refund as opposed to choosing something else. Wish me luck.
