Well maybe he did make it worse in warm up in which case it did go from okay to missing some games.
But also you’d think by now, if it was dicey heading into game day, Moylan would have a decent read on his own body and how it holds up

We must be the kings of game day injuries

We all knew SJ was going to be out for start of season from last year.
Count average games per year while on contract.
Moylan has given us pretty much zero value for money, at least SJ has had some value at times.

Who knew.

This season it's hard to argue who's added the most value (even just when on the field if you like)... actually think I'd be backing Mozza

If we going to compare between both, you should remove the year they weren't playing together.

SJ has been a better more influential player overall for our team over the years in terms of winning us games but never had close to a complete good season (relatively speaking) like Moylan had for us in 2018

Both have been terrible value on a $ basis but that comes with the territory with these types of players - good to see the market adjust and reflect a more realistic salary for these guys, I hope it's a trend that continues across the game and and all clubs

I would even argue to lower the salary cap cause a heck of alot of the highly paid players do not perform to a high standard consistently and we need to think long term sustainability of our game.

but we have to compete with overseas Union comps ect who can be willing to splash the cash although I don't think we would lose that many to Union (which is dying in this country anyway) and any that jump ship can be replaced by the next exciting up and coming prospect though granted some may opt for union at a young age before they get in the league system.

point is players like Moylan and SJ are a product of the system that has valued hype and inflated salaries in light of a shrinking play maker talent pool. I think this might be start to swing around though with the new generation of players coming through

I think as fans and clubs we just want to see a fair and reasonable return on and off field for a fair and reasonable salary paid . If a player actually performs to an elite standard and stays on the park no worries, give them the big cheque

I reckon last year for SJ has to at least count as close...
He had a weak patch early and undoubtedly did some other fades through the year but overall I thought he had a strong season and no Achilles injury could have seen us another week into finals.
I don't remember 2018 in fine moment by moment detail but I'd assume Moylan had a handful of quieter games also

You just rarely get the chance to keep that talent. Right now there's more money around than high quality players. You get a bloke having one breakout year (month?!)and he's snapped up by some struggling club on a four year $600-700k/year contract.
Then you've got Melbourne and Easts snapping up pretty much anyone at all they want, regardless of contracts. Because players want to play there (and get a few rounds in with Nick or he odd boat or ring from Craig).

If you're any good now you want to play for a good club. There's blokes who aren't playing Origin or for Australia because they're in **** teams, and you can make your chances a lot better by being a part of success and attached to influential figures.

You just can't wait for a bloke to have two great seasons then say they've earned good money now unfortunately. They'll have already signed a contract elsewhere.

It spins me out that players in bottom placed teams earn just as much as top side due to cap. Basically crap players on big $$$. I'd like to see it reduced by 25% and win bonuses paid to incentivise players.

Hard enough for weaker teams to attract strong players without them also needing to make up for that wage indifference

I understand where you are coming from but it is already hard enough for them to attract players and the crap players they attract are on big $$$ because the club has to spend it's cap.

The current system allows crap players in spine of crap teams to demand big money as clubs need to spend their cap. Some of the big money earners wouldn't make top 100 of best players running around. Clubs get locked into long term contracts with these players taking them years to recover. The other alternative to my first suggestion is to allow clubs to keep unspent cap money to be used elsewhere. This way clubs pay players worth.

I wouldn’t have thought there’d be much of any teams cap spent specifically just to reach the total
Titans spent 1mil on Taylor because he was supposed to be the next great half not just somewhere to put their money because they had to, for example

Gotta keep this guy

We really look better with him, straightens the attack and from all reports calls the plays

Get the injury history but 1 year will be valuable

@ how much you want to pay him?
How many games does he need to play to be considered valuable?

Not being a smart arse but two things in hindsight we didn’t get right or have been a problem with his existing contract.
