Just starting this thread because I think it warrants its own thread with discussion about it.

What's peoples thoughts on it? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Is it unfair? What could be done make it fair for the remaining 15 clubs who have to work within the salary cap.

Also, who do you think made the list. So far its been SBW, Burgess and Hayne.

I'd like to say JT, but him basically saying he has signed his final contract with the Cowboys makes me think they may not bother. same with Cam Smith, he's too set in his ways to chase any big money.

My guess would be Foran, and to a lesser extent DCE.

Inglis?

Basically anybody that phil gould wants to hype up.

Every 16 teams should have 1 cap exempt player per year. They nominate that player. Ie we could have gal 1 year then todd the next because gal got a club veteran discount bla bla. The club still has to pay them no nrl top ups.

the problem is you have teams with no money (titans) against teams with billionaire owners (souths) there will never be a level playing field.

Hahaha didn't even think of Inglis, but yeah, 100% he would now be the new #1 if he wasn't already.

I honestly don't think every club would have a player on the list. Sharks, Raiders, Titans most likely wouldn't have one on the list, while a team like Manly or Souths could have two.

Gallen is the NSW captain and arguably the best forward in the world, so he could be on the list depending on what the criteria is.

I think the whole thing is stupid.

I personally would like a player draft each year , unfortunately for us our biggest opponent is our culture.

i'll argue that until the cows come home, maybe in the top 10 forwards now, but definitely not the best, and no where near the best

i would like the NRL to bring in a marquee allowance, that doesnt come into the salary cap, and is funded by the nrl

it would also be good if they set guidelines for it, like it was a minimum 3 years deal so you have it sorted for a period of time and then dont have to panic about filling it each year

Only if every club can use it each year

i think the allowance should be for 1 player only, and should be a minimum 3 year deal

for instance, we wanted reynolds for 2016, he gets our marquee money for 2016, 2017, 2018

for 2019 we either re-sign him on that, or negotiate him down and see if we can get the next big thing on the market

Wonder if a marquee playing allowance would cause friction among the players especially if the marquee player was out of form

Yeah, doubt they'd be getting rid of him if he was worth keeping.

Although, could the ESL team be paying a transfer? Gold Coast could probably use the money.

Clearly AK is a dead beat. Like Carney, no amount of chances will change him.

A dead beat? Carney has had his chances, but I'm not sure where you get off calling Kelly that. Kid is 23 & obviously has a culture problem. Nothing to really suggest he hasn't matured while being at the titans.

Anyone off the top of their head think of aboriginal guys who have played rugby league in England?

1st that comes to mind is Steve Renouf

and of course, David Peachey

Yes a deadbeat. Sacked by as many clubs as carney. Both deadbeats.
