The reality is I can't see him be in our long term plans and it is better for him and his family to get a 3 year deal. As long a we get a suitable replacement it is fine.

IRO could be upgraded to be in the top 30.
With Miller leaving we now only have 27/30 now I’m pretty sure.

Good luck to him, did a good job and brought a bit of excitement. I'd prefer to keep him for a year on current money, but I'd prefer to release him rather than try to match the Knights deal/length..

If we want to try the rugby union convert approach, there are plenty of others who are probably as good, and younger. If we want another 7s Olympian, we could sign Nathan Lawson who is a local, different style of player though (bigger, and more a centre/flanker).

I think we'll defn see Iro upgraded, surprised he wasn't too be honest.

I think Iro offers better versatility in the backline, plus the fact Fitzy picked Dykes ahead of Miller originally suggest that might be the pecking order long term.

Good on him for getting a long term deal for his family.

Dykes mate. Will be 10 times the footballer that MIller could hope to be.
Wasn't sure how close he might be to firstgrade. I know he's had a taste but it's great if he's able put a bit of genuine pressure on Kennedy.

Looked very natural to me. I reckon the off season will only help him more, put on a bit of extra muscle.
He will definintely need good durability. Fullbacks are dropping like flies these days, our included... though there's so much work they're expected to do it's not really surprising.

Iro will get 1 spot.
Not sure what his position will be - looked decent at FB at WC I think maybe centre where he excelled in NSW Cup and earnt NRL debut though, especially with Dykes on the books.

Gotta be doing something right to be Cup Player of the Year even if a lot of the 'better' players aren't really in the running due to more time in the NRL

Is there a point in upgrading him now?
He is already under contract so won’t be a carrot to get him to stay.
He won’t be starting the year in firsts imo just keep him on his development contract till / if the time comes he needs to play early or wait the 12 (?12 weeks ) till he can play anyway.
Keep that spot if we need it.

i guess the only reason to upgrade is if an injury happens early, do you want to play iro or hiroti

We have three open spots, are we likely to sign three players better than the current NSW Cup player of the year?
Furthermore is it a bit of a kick in the teeth to him to sign someone over the top of him? Good to foster good will with good players we want to keep. If another club had some centre woes we don't want them calling his manager asking if they thought he'd like to play NRL.

Not sure what the squad number requirements are these days, think you used to need to have 28 on the books come start of season so that's a spot that must be filled with someone.

Edit: Latest I can find re 28 man squad is 2021 "Clubs have been working with the new rules for some time, with a minimum of only 28 players required on their rosters from March 1, down from the previous mark of 29."

Being nice doesn’t win you a premiership.
If we need him early or playing well enough then do it but it’s a hell of a long season with injuries and form drops to use an extra spot pre season than needs to be used.

Feel Iro still has a bit to learn before making grade imo. Stats and hard meters are a great starting point but his defence and attacking lines need to improve.

That is a very short sighted view, I think making sure you keep the best young talents you have access too does contribute to premierships.

Iro does have some development still before he can lock down an NRL spot, so do probably Colquhoun, Hazelton, Taukamo, Hiroti, Berrell and, formerly(?) Miller

Spot needs to be used within 6 weeks, Fitz will already know if Iro is suitable quality and Fitz/Mooney would already have an idea if anyone better around is available. If we upgraded Iro now and suddenly someone good became available we can probably squeeze them into one of our other two open spots.
