Gotta be Iro if he can play FB. He’s 22, so old enough, NSW cup player of the year. Hopefully WK stays fit.
He can play fullback, but in NSW Cup whenever they needed someone they would leave him at centre and Hiroti would play FB.

why would we talk about tracey and hiroti when we have iro and taukamo?
Taukamo is injured, and has never played a game at fullback against men.

Iro is outside the top 30, and while they certainly could upgrade him, there isn't a pressing need for it unless there actually is a long-term injury or two. He has also played very little fullback against men, and had dicks for fingers in his one NRL game.

If Kennedy is injured for a week or two, it will be Tracey who comes in imo. If he's out for a month you look at other options. I don't think Hiroti is the answer for the Sharks, but he might get the nod for the Jets. He's a good player at that level.

Probably something overlooked here is that Dykes was also injury cover at 6. If we are talking upgrades in to the top 30 I'd say Puru is every bit as much a chance as Iro.

That's not even worth mentioning given the tiny sample size.

Remember Ron's first NRL game?

Of course it is worth mentioning. It's relevant. Would you have picked Ronnie at fullback for game #2?

It doesn't mean he is a bad player. It means the nerves may still be there. Don't throw him in at fullback until he sorts that out.

it wont be tracey

if kennedy went down in round 2 hynes would go to the back and trindall would go to 7

but our next cab at fb is iro, fingers crossed we dont get to either scenario

Agree coach would move Hynes to 1. Moving your best player is never ideal, but Fitz has shown his faith in Trindall.

A fair bit of water has gone under the bridge since Iro's first game.

What? The 2 games at fullback in the World Cup against powerhouses PNG and Wales, or the half a game against Tonga where a line break was an automatic try because he can't tackle? Even against PNG he was a turnstile, and outside of kick returns he wasn't a factor in attack whatsoever in the WC.

I think all this Iro hype is from people who haven't actually watched him play. He's a great ball runner, but a terrible defender with average hands and no passing game. He might have a future as a centre or a winger in the NRL, but if he's your fullback at any level - start planning your Bali trip for the first week of September.

I'm not saying he's great, I'm talking about him playing FB if we're really desperate and we don't really have other options.

I have no issue with him as a centre although he's at the point where he wants to get on top of that defensive deficiency soon if he wants to establish himself as an NRL regular. Hopefully another full season of Cup at centre would help get him there.

I don't particularly like him as a fullback, although if we moved him there in Cup he's potentially good enough he will get to a point where he would be the nrl 2nd option. Say Kennedy was out for a couple of games late in season and Iro has been playing well there in Cup.

Obviously the expectation and hope is Kennedy is back to his best this season and plays 90%+ of the season so who fullback 2 is becomes not a big concern.

Start running Tracey there in preseason, gave Kennedy a good push last time.
