Sure mate, I know plenty of women who would be prepared to up their life to move closer to their ex.

Anyway, even is she agreed it would come under the cap.

He's gone, move on.

I don't see a structure or position on the field where you can avoid the risk of injury to Dugan - his strength is his full throttle 100% approach not so much outright skills. you can't take that away or ask him to take it easy either or you gunna have a shell of a player that second guesses himself.

We just gunna have to deal with it I think - this is the player we have.

Val plays exactly the same, he runs so hard at the line yet he is never injured. There is something else going on here ...

Duges is great. No question. But at 14 starts for 2018 ( and how many finished?) can we afford to carry him?
With the ranks being so depleted you'd have to say no... geez we needed him in Melbourne.

Here's hoping we figure it how to get a minimum 1800 minutes out of him at full fitness in 2019.

Yeah, about 5 years.

See how Val's body is holding up after that long. He will need to change something to maintain it.

Dugan was just as injury prone at Val's age.

This.
Josh duagn debuted in round 3 2009 and has played 168 games - 18 games per year
Valentine debuted in round 21 2014 and played 104 games - which is 25 games per year taking into account the 4 or so he played in 2014

Massive difference

Dugan stays upright fighting in the tackle longer than Val and consequently struggles longer with the defenders. Val get's brought down fairly quick if he hasn't broken the tackle. This is the difference where Dugan gets twisted and turned and put in awkward positions.

For those who want him moved on (I don't) who of quality is on the market to replace him with? Unless you can find another Origin level Centre better to have Duges on our books than not. At least our younger blokes get some experience every time he breaks something but I will concede we could have really used his services all the way through the finals. But other players got busted up too and missed games

Duges stands in tackles and refuses to submit. Like Inglis he's strong enough to do it.

It seems like he's got a long back as well. Surprised he hasn't ended up with a stuffed back on top of everything else.

Fighting in tackles isn't what it used to be. Now catty players voluntarily tackle themselves and fight on the way up. Gets you a very quick play the ball or a penalty.

We are dumb for not doing it.

Yeah I agree. The only real advantage apart from the possibility of popping a pass is that he attracts a few extra defenders to bring him down. If he can then get a quicker play the ball than the defenders expect there's a chance Brailley can hit an angled runner.

I don't think it's the way of the future for him though, not if he wants some longevity.

I think it's more that Val is elusive, and avoids big contact. Dugan is a run the **** over them like a steamroller kind of guy.

Absolutely. Val gets hit trying to avoid contact - ideally he doesn't get touched. Dugan looks for a **** to hit and wear down so a bloke like Val can exploit them later.

Agree with some of you re: Dugan trying to steamroll and fight tacklers more as a contributing factor but he still seems to have an overly high rate of injury.
I have been disappointed with how much he was able to contribute this season, if he can knock out 18+ next season I'll be fairly happy with that - he is a good player and it's not like we didn't know what we were getting in to.
I do wonder whether he could have some kind of connective tissue weakness or something can contribute to so many small injuries.

More disappointed at the number of games Wade missed, I hope that's his injury worries for the next few years out of the way.

He had a disrupted season that’s for sure but our whole squad had major injuries all year
Lewis, Gal, Wade, Dugan, Fifita, Moylan, Sorenson, Williams all spent significant time on the sideline. Plus we still managed to finish rqual first somehow. Next year is really just about mitigating injuries, do that and we will be competitive

Yeah we did well to finish top 4/equal 1st with all the injury issues, lack of injuries is often one of the main factors that sees teams go well.
However next season we will see how much we miss Lewy unless someone else can step up big time, or a few people can step up...
