They are trying to raise 130k, so 20%, but your point stands.

I'm sure the club would happily even give him an advance in this scenario.
Well that’s a lot bigger ask on them and it’s a bit more reasonable then to try and get some help - after all they do know a lot of well off people who can chip some money in

Still, a dubious decision but I guess they thought anything that could happen insurance would cover - as so many people wrongly do…

My little boy was in NICU for a few weeks. Honestly one of the worst times.

I won’t be getting on my horse just because he makes good money. Hard to know the whole situation and the only thing that matters is everyone is safe.
Yeah im not trying to be on a high horse at all and absolutely think the most important thing is babies welfare. Go fund me isn't a quick process though, and given this is posted by a friend I'm sure they are actually going down more practical avenues to ensure the best outcome.

Yeah I'd imagine they're not waiting for these funds to get him back to Australia. Must be a difficult situation, knowing how fragile they are the temptation to leave them there must be strong too.

I hope the poor little fella is OK, and wish them all the best. I think it's like anyone, it's expensive living here, and a player's contract is not long. I don't think anyone has that sort of money sitting around readily available. Even some of the most senior Sharks live in normal houses in fairly normal suburbs/areas. So if friends want to help ease the burden at a very hard time, and you can get 1000 people contributing $100 (potentially possible in RL community), then it would be a huge relief and let them concentrate on the most important things.

I don’t have anything against go fund me but when some of the guys are sharing on their socials but haven’t donated is a bit steep.
If it’s my work colleagues or mates and I’m earning the money they are on I’m definitely not doing an Oprah. ( yes they could have done it anonymously but the anonymous donations are very small )

About to hit 30k
Say what you will but certainly takes some of the heat off them in terms of the expense.

I'm a lot less critical realising it is 130k they are facing not 20k I misinterpreted it as initially. More like 20% of annual wage than 3%.

I think the travel is a risk most still wouldn't take and they regret now. But if doctor said all good and they thought they had insurance sorted they obviously felt everything would be okay. Unfortunately insurance often doesn't cover as much problems as people can find themselves in...

It's not just the cost issue, dunno why you'd risk going to a place like when health services aren't as good as here. Wouldn't want to have a heavily premmy baby there.

Oh for sure, 100%, I wouldn't think I'd be doing it.
If a doctor green lights it and you have what you believe is sufficient cover I can see how someone else could make the call it is going to be fine for them. (turned out to be wrong, obviously)

But yeah fully agree there's a massive element of risk going to a country like that any amount pregnant let alone as far along as they were.

I certainly don't think it was a good call in foresight and I'm sure in hindsight they would agree it wasn't - done now though

I don’t know how they went thinking they had cover but then they didn’t ? Perhaps didn’t cover everything, which means they didn’t have the best cover.

I imagine insurance would cover them, but not the baby. Insurance wouldn't take the risk on insuring a baby, until they see if the baby is healthy.

In general, I think it's the wrong time to think about anything other than the baby, Teo.

People are free to donate it, or leave it.

The fact his teammates were so generous indicates that they see it as important, and they know him best.

And even though he earns more than the average, there's plenty of people out there in the NRL world with more money than him, who wouldn't mind helping out.

I don't think anyone would be wishing the parents and baby anything but the best!
A very tough and unfortunate situation they have found themselves in that certainly would have also been very challenging even in Australia

Honestly it is ridiculous that that inusrance companies get away with insuring the mother and not the baby for medical expenses. It should be assumed the baby is covered as well and not the other way.

I shouldn't really look, but there are some pretty generous donations in the list. Aside from current players, Jack Williams, Jacob Saifiti and Lachie Miller notable, plus some of the lower-grade and NRLW players like Magoulias, Ison, and Jada Taylor.

Getting close to $50,000, would be a big help/relief if the flight does end up being needed.
