Clayton Uia is playing 20’s for Souths Logan.
Kyle Pickering (SG Ball.. turns 17 this year) apparently re-signed until the end of 2019. I need to confirm this.

This has been confirmed by Kyle's management.

No worries.

Lualua is #2, Pele is #8 and Xerri #3
https://youtu.be/FdXnJgiYP8w

Xerri was good. They only shifted to him a handful of times but he setup one try and was dangerous on the others. His edge wasn’t tested much in defence but was solid the few times they needed to be.

Lualua touched the ball twice for two tries. Both were laid on a platter for him, but he was in position and quick enough to get there. Would have liked to have seen him with more opportunities. He was also the goal kicker. 2/5 on the day with most kicks coming from out wide.

Pele was lazy in defence and completely uninvolved in attack until about 8 minutes to go when he decided to pull his finger out and he made three barnstorming runs, including one 25m effort with a quick play the ball leading to the dummy half scooting off 30m for the match winning try. Looks like he has the ability but either the attitude isn’t there all the time or he is struggling for fitness after his injury. If you just watched the last ten minutes of this match you’d have him first in line for Aussie schoolboys; if you watched only the first 60 minutes you’d be scratching your head as to how he even made the NSW team.

What was the final score?

24-20. They played QSS (Queensland). It was 20-10 to QSS with about 15 minutes to go.

Qld’s halves were very good. The CHS fullback, hooker and bench props were good too. Their halves weren’t as good IMO.

The carnival is 3 x NSW teams (State, Catholic, independent) plus Qld, ACT and CAS (combined team from the rest of Aus)

Australian Scoolboys is named Friday arvo. Xerri would have to turn up drunk to not get picked. The others are long shots. Pickering and Pele are under-aged (17 this year).

Thanks mate. So Xerri didn’t get over the line?

He made a great play for the first try, had a try disallowed because of a forward pass, and got stopped inches short a couple of times. They will keep the games up on YouTube if you want to check it out. It was maybe 5-10 minutes in when he made that nice setup play.

Pickering played today (NSWCCC). They got done 12-10 by Qld.

Pickering himself didn’t stand out but didn’t look out of place either. He had a hand in one try and could have scored one himself if not for a pass going a metre behind him when he had the line open in front of him. He played a lot of different spots in SG Ball but in this game he came off the bench at the 10 minute mark and played right edge back row for the rest of the game.

It’s probably worth noting that this was a very poor game. Lots of dropped balls and penalties, and the halfback running the right edge on that team just never passes to his outside men. He goes himself 80% of the time, or passes inside occasionally. Hard for anyone to look good playing outside that kid. The 5/8 on the other side was keen on passing - but wasn’t very good at it. That team needs better halves if they are going to compete.

Very very tall centres Burgess except the Cas team with Mainly vic players in,i hear?

I haven’t noticed big or tall centres; I’ve only seen three teams play so far though.

Yeah - CAS is nearly all Vic players. 17 of 22 or something like that.

Just finished watching NSWCHS (Xerri, Lualua, Pele) v NSWCCC (Pickering).

CCC came home with a wet sail after trailing 22-12 to win 30-22. Mostly due to their hooker (Ryan Gray, Bulldogs SG Ball captain), who terrorized CHS around the ruck. Skinny legs; good player.

Main feature of this game again was the CCC halfback going himself constantly. His name is Jock Madden., He is in the Knights system. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he is picked in the Aussie Schoolboys ... but I haven't seen a halfback pass less to his outside men since Shaun Berrigan was 16. I would hate to be a centre, winger, or anyone who isn't in the middle third, playing with that guy. He hasn't shifted it once in two games. Selectors love a kid who can beat tackles and make a flashy chip and chase though, so he's a shoe-in...

Pickering played fullback in the first half before shifting to back row (right side). As you'd expect, he hardly touched the ball. Once again he didn't look out of place but didn't do anything to stand out. He's the youngest of the bunch (will still be in SG Ball next year) so let's hope the experience is good for him. Has played 6 (all of 2017) and split time at fullback and back row (2018) so it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Lualua wasn't heavily involved. He scored a try which unfortunately wasn't captured on the stream so I can't say whether he ran 1m or 110m to make it happen. He also got out-jumped on a bomb for an opposition try but it wasn't something you would put on him. Like Pickering, he did his job well enough without standing out either way

Pele was better this game, but played a lot less minutes. He had some strong runs, some strong defence and a very nice offload that almost sent Xerri away for the match winner when it was 24-22. Talent is there for sure. Only match fitness or attitude holding him back. I have done some research on him and confirmed he is born in 2000 so will be going up to 20's next year.

Not a happy game for Xerri. I didn't see if he was involved in the Lualua try at all ... but other than that he didn't get a lot of ball. He gave up a penalty for an incorrect play the ball on his own 30m line at 22-12 (they scored) and then made a half break on his 40m line but got the ball 1-on-1 stripped at 22-18 (they scored again). All in all not a terrible game but he wouldn't be happy with those mistakes. I guess it is the nature of this carnival that players are out to play for themselves ... but if I was trying to win footy games I'd be getting the ball to his edge every set of six instead of the 3-4 times per game he is seeing.

Finally, a couple of notes on a few kids who aren't there. Thomas Demeio (U17 aged) is a gun hooker/half for CHS who will probably be the SG Ball starting #7 next year, Kai Broadhurst (U18 aged) is also from CHS and is was the halfback and captain of the Sharks SG Ball team this year, and Isaac Longmuir (U18 aged, CCC) is a gun hooker from the SG Ball team who recently debuted in 20's. I'm not sure on any details as to why these players weren't there (injury, form, left school?) but I'd say these are the three most prominent no-shows for the Sharks.

Thanks for that great Wrap on the game .
