Strange choice for mine. He's better than both at the moment but you'd think between Flanno and B Brailey we'd have utility covered. Would be a shame to lose em forever for one more year of Seg.

Flanno Snr always said he liked 3 hookers.

I think its fair enough. If Chad/Sean and Jayden go down we're scrambling. Seggy on a low, last minute 1yr deal doesn't say to the Brailey's they're out of plans - Seggy isn't contracted longer than any of them.

We run a two hooker rotation. Having only two hookers in the squad is not a good idea. Up to the coach now to make sure we lock up Blayke long term.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Morris uses him. I don’t think we saw the best of him under Flanno

I read that Robert Kraft over at the NFL likes his cheap hookers as well. Must be a sports thing.

I saw if the NFL choose to fine him the max allowable owners fine is half a mil. For him this is the equivalent of fining the average american $2.87
Imagine if we had that kinda money in our game.

James Segeyaro has kept his NRL career alive by inking a new one-year deal with the club he farewelled only four months ago.

Cronulla have snapped up Segeyaro just three weeks before the start of the 2019 season with the damaging hooker expected to commence training today.

Under NRL salary cap investigation, the Sharks have deliberately held-off spending their entire salary cap for 2019 and have one roster spot remaining in their top 30.

There has been speculation that the Sharks will be forced to shed a player as a result of any impending salary cap impost from the NRL.

However, the Sharks management remain optimistic that by failing to spend their entire salary cap they may survive any major blood-letting.

James Segeyaro has kept his NRL career alive. Picture: Cameron Spencer Rugged prop Ava Seumanufagai is also weighing up an extended deal from Leeds in the UK Super League — a move if it eventuates, could also alleviate salary cap pain from any impending hit from the NRL.

Aware that they are facing a salary cap penalty from the NRL, the Sharks sort counsel from former NRL salary cap auditor Jamie L’Oste Brown — a consultant to the club — before agreeing to terms with Segeyaro.

The late acquisition of the 28-year-old was necessary if the Sharks intend to again push their premiership claims.

While both gifted footballers, the Sharks were facing the prospect of tackling 2019 with the Brailey brothers, Jayden and Blayke, as their only two hookers in the club.

Untried utility Billy Magoulias was shaping as the club’s next-best option at dummy-half.

James Segeyaro has spent the past two seasons with the Sharks. Picture: Zak Simmonds A small break in Blayke’s thumb suffered in last Saturday night’s trial against Manly also leaves him racing to be fit for round one — and of which only underlines the urgency from Sharks officials to secure Segeyaro.

Segeyaro has trained over the off-season despite his isolation from an actual NRL squad.

The livewire dummy-half has spent his summer in the gym with former Cronulla forward Luke Lewis.

Segeyaro never gave up hope that he would be able to find a club before the 2019 season.

The Eels and Knights had been linked to signing the former Dally M Hooker of the Year — but having spent the last two seasons with Cronulla, including featuring in 26 first-grade games last year, his return to the Sharks was an obvious one.

A cheeky ploy to avoid losing Johnson to salary cap? They said it's 'last man in, first man out' if we had to shed a player.
