THE NRL have given James Segeyaro official clearance to begin training with Cronulla’s full-time squad, as registration of a contract looms.

In the final stages of reaching a formal release from his 2017 contract with English Super League club Leeds, Segeyaro has been told by the NRL he can start training with the Sharks, after spending the last five months training in exile.

Segeyaro is available to train with the Sharks at their captain’s run tomorrow ahead of their local derby clash with St George-Illawarra at Southern Cross Group Stadium, however as he’s ineligible to play, his first training session with the NRL squad, is likely to be next week.

After a lengthy and drawn-out saga, the talented hooker is set to join the Sharks for the upcoming season and through until 2018.

His manager Sam Ayoub and Cronulla’s football manager Phil Moss met with the NRL earlier this week.

He has been spotted working out at the Sharks gym in recent weeks, with the 26-year-old expected to sign a deal until the end of 2018.

It’s anticipated that once the contract is finalised, possibly within the next 48-hours, Segeyaro’s first match will be with the Sharks’ NSW Cup team, Newtown.

I'm guessing he plays for us in round 6 (Storm). He'll get a run in reggies next week (rd4) and we have the Knights in round 5 so I reckon Flano will see how Brailey can handle the 80 that game. Segy in the #17 for the GF rematch.

I'm hearing that the signing of Segyaro will be announced soon.

As soon as the NRL announce the cap for 2018.
As soon as a referee actually sends someone to the sin bin after repeated penalties.
As soon as Wayne Bennett is sacked as Broncos coach.
As soon as Steve Smith and Virat Kohli go out for a nice meal together.
As soon as this bloody rain in Sydney stops.

Shouldn't be long now...

Leeds Rhinos have agreed to a settlement that will allow hooker James Segeyaro to join NRL side Cronulla Sharks with immediate effect.

The player was placed on the transfer list by the Rhinos last December with a valuation of £250,000 following the announcement by the player that he would not return to fulfil the remaining two years of his contract with the Rhinos.

Gary Hetherington said, “We have agreed to terms with James Segeyaro to enable him to sign with the Cronulla Sharks.

“The terms of the settlement are strictly confidential but we can report that the club is satisfied with the financial settlement. Importantly, the club has been completely vindicated in the position that they adopted in relation to this dispute. The sanctity of the playing contract must always be respected and complied with. We are pleased that both the RFL and the NRL recognise the importance of the playing contract and the responsibilities associated with it. We anticipate that the strong stance that our club took in relation to this matter will ultimately benefit the game of rugby league in both countries.

“The whole saga leaves a bitter taste, but I am pleased it has been resolved amicably and I hope James can go on and fulfil his potential in the NRL. From the outset of our relationship with James, I am confident we have acted at all times with complete integrity. As a club we are proud of our record of welcoming players from overseas into the Rhinos family, the fact that the majority of players who join the club from the NRL not only complete their initial contract but agree to extensions speaks volumes. I would like to thank our legal advisor in Australia, Mr Tim Fuller, for his advice and guidance in this matter and the RFL for their support in the process,” added Hetherington.
