It's just a list of locks ranking them madden/Fifa style / assigning them scores out of 99
Had some input from a few people (this was like the 3rd version of the list).

I just thought it was a funny that a group of NRL fans (don't think any were sharks fans) collectively all agreed Jack Williams was the worst lock currently in the NRL (technically tied with Merrin and Taylor but I think it's telling his name was last).

Well I can’t say I have any idea what madden/fifa ratings are, it all looks a bit meaningless to me.

I like Jack but I know he’s nowhere near regular standard as yet but I just think he rated low was because he plays for us and no one knows who the hell he is.

Basically absolute elite players 99, squad nobodies in the 60s, the rating scale used doesn’t really matter.

There’s two other sharks players in there rated above him, although Billy being above him does suggest they don’t have the best idea of our players... and can look forward to an angry message from him.

Did his job ok tonight, didn’t do his immediate future first grade prospects any harm. Still dropping out of the team when big Hunt is back in my view though:

Defense in the middle still a lottery, him and Tolman opened up like the heads for Dufty to stroll through.

Reckon he offers nothing...seems he keeps getting picked in the hope he does something but we never see it. His obvious strength in the gym translates to zero on the field

Magoulis racing out the line leaving the gap didn’t help them.

Magoulias was at marker mate. Chasing hard from first marker is not a sin. The try happened because one of the A defenders (Brailey) cheated across to the left and the other one (Williams) was flat footed. Hard to blame Tolman (second maker) either. When Hunt comes back to the middle he has to take him.

Billy had some other moments where his defence was poor. That was not one of them.

Agree on Williams. Was flat footed and unable to make the necessary adjustment. At absolute worst he should have been able to slow Nufty down.

Yeah I didn't think he was too bad last night. I do think him along with Billy are the forwards most likely to get dropped for a Talakai, Hunt, Wilton, Fifita.

Was he? I apologise fellas I must of been thinking of a different play.

Just did this for Billy so thought I'd do it for Williams too...

- Comes on to the field with ~12 minutes left in the first half, and with Ramien still having around 1 minute left in the sin bin. Sharks kick it out and Ramien comes back on not long after
- Next few minutes the action stays away from him, until the Sharks get a repeat set and he finally gets a hit up from a drop out about 3 minutes later. Knees + elbows + quick ptb
- He gets a second hit up on the same set. Knees + elbows + quick ptb
- With 6 minutes to go he covers a grubber in goal and saves a try
- Next set he takes a hit up. Knees + elbows + quick ptb (are you noticing a pattern here?)
- Sharks get another repeat set
- He takes another hit up. Knees + elbows + quick ptb... but the ref calls him back for walking off the mark (fair call imo)
- and yet another hit up on the same set. Knees + elbows + quick ptb. Sharks get another repeat set
- next set... another run, another quick ptb. Nikora drops it a couple of tackles later
- last two sets, Dragons ruck it up, then kick, then the penalty and field goal shots. No runs or tackles for Williams

***

At the end of first half he has played 12 minutes, but wasn't involved at all in the first 2 or last 2. In the 8 minutes in between the Sharks had the ball almost the whole time and he ran the ball 6 times for good yards and great play the balls (including the one that was called back).

Defensively: 12 minutes for 0 tackles and 0 misses

***

- Second half the Dragons kick off. Williams takes run #2. Another strong run and a quick ptb.
- At the end of the set Townsend kicks and Williams in three tackles the next set. The tackle-less streak is over at 13 minutes
- Next set he isn't involved in attack
- Dragons next set he makes 2 tackles
- Next set he isn't involved in attack
- Makes 2 good tackles in a row on the Dragons next possession
- Next Sharks possession he takes a run and gets turtled. Slow ptb
- Next Dragons set he makes 4 tackles in a row. He's starting to walk in defence
- Next set he makes 2 tackles in row and then lets Vaughan go through him like a turnstile
- No involvement on the next Sharks set, but chases the kick and is involved in the tackle
- Next Dragons set he is walking again in defence. Dragons get a set restart. Williams has a bad miss on Hunt but Dufty knocks on soon after
- Next Sharks possession he takes a run and gets turtled. Slow ptb
- Sharks kick again and Williams is involved in the tackle
- Tackle 4 the Dragons play the ball in the middle, the A defender on the left (Brailey) moves up and left but Williams stands still. He doesn't move up and doesn't shift across to cover the space. Dufty goes straight in to the hole Williams should be standing in and makes the Sharks look silly.
- One tackle after the kick off Williams is replaced by Woods

***

So... as per pretty much every game he plays, Williams is an attacking weapon with one of the best ptb's in the comp... but when he has to do a big defensive workload he gets tired very quickly, gets targeted, and he struggles.

First 13 minutes: 6 runs, 0 tackles, -0misses
Next 9 minutes: 1 run , 13 tackles, 0 misses
Then in his final 5 minutes he has one run where he gets turtled, makes one tackle, has Vaughan go through him, has Hunt go through him, and waves at Dufty while standing still

Williams is the poster child for the new rules. Big guy + fatigue = points.

Strong muscles make for good strength to push up for a quick PTB, but are a lot of weight to keep lugging around in defence. 3+ back to back tackles are extremely fatiguing.
Sounds like maybe him and Billy should have got more like 20 minutes each.

One knock on Bomber is there have been a few times where a forward has been visibly fatigued and struggling but taken maybe 5 or so minutes past that point before they come off and get exposed in the meantime.

If Talakai or Hunt can come back and pushes out Billy at least they should get 20+ mins hopefully meaning an earlier spell for Williams.

Yep. Exactly this. Watching Williams closely in the replay you could pick the exact moment he started struggling.
