I'll tell you at the end of the season. Our squad on paper we should go well but I've been a Sharks supporter for long enough to not get too excited in advance.

Couldn't agree more Deano. Realistically I would put us at 2-5 sort of mark but anything can happen.

Guess what we see in the Semis this weekend will show where we at least need to be - there are at least 3 or 4 Teams like us that look on paper that their on the way up next year too.

look at his past clubs melbourne and st george both of these clubs had great squads and epic coaches maybe that's the reason why he is in winning teams?...

Explain 2011 , we had him in the team we had a **** squad and we lost it's just how it works. It's like Carney this year we had **** backs and now everyone is saying he is underwhelming. He is a great forward and his presence makes the forwards play a lot better when he is on , but to say he is a difference maker like thurston , lockyer , and Smith is absurd these players can control and lead whole teams around to victory.

You still have to have a good squad, of course. That's fricken obvious. I'm not saying that he could take a reserve grade side to the finals. But then again, neither could Thurston. Or Lockyer. Johns... almost did- but he had Buderus and Simpson etc.

Did you watch the 2010 GF? You can't tell me that he didn't lead his team to victory in the second half. When it was wet, when it was tough, he did the business. Nightingale was the only player close to him for MoM... Boyd got it because he wore the #1. What about the win against Melbourne this year? We defended like demons but were still behind with 10 to go. Halves doing nothing. Nothing on. Smith takes the ball from DH and wills himself over the line.

Ben Kennedy was another. He went from Canberra to Newcastle and Newcastle came good. He left Newy and wen to Manly and they made the finals. He was in winning NSW and Kangaroo teams. He was just used to winning. He expected it and he knew the path to get there.

The best or most talented roster doesn't always win. In fact, it rarely seems to. Its the guys that are accustomed to winning that are there every year. Of course they're the best players too, but its a mindset thing. They're more accustomed to being successful than failing.

I haven't played league to any high level but I've played a lot of sport and there are always some guys who lift those around them and increase the team output, especially in big games. Often they're the creative players, but not always. Smith does that. There would be less than 10 in the comp who do I reckon and on current form, no others in our side. Carney at his best probably, but we haven't seen that for a while. He'll be a huge loss. Hopefully the team is mature enough and have learnt that attitude enough to improve regardless.

I know what Smith brings to the table I know he brings a winning mentality but you really take away from so many other factors when you make statements like "Smith will be an enormous loss. Teams he plays in win." and now your saying because Ben Kennedy went to Newcastle they came good when in reality there is so much more to teams winning.

Now back up your first statement "Smith will be an enormous loss. Teams he plays in win."....He played for us in 2011 and we still lost. explain.

Your are incredibly dense and AB's point will never get across to you so stop now. Your taking that statement like an annoying 5 year that was promised an ice-cream no matter what and didn't get it.

You may know it but I doubt you understand it.

My case is nuanced and explained. You're taking a single statement I made and trying- incorrectly- to take it at face value. Read literally, that statement says that teams of which Jeremy Smith is a part win. I didn't specify that they always win. Or that they win every competition they play. Read literally, that statement is 100% accurate- though it is just as true about Taulima Tautai, because the teams he's played in win (every so often).

The implied meaning was that the teams Jeremy Smith plays in win more often because he is there. And significantly so. You can't say the same about many players in the competition. Sure, there are plenty of quality players- there has to be, its a relative standard. But almost all of them could be replaced by another player of the same ability/experience and the side's success would not change. Not so with Smith. Hence the term 'difference maker'. Like Lockyer. Like Kennedy. Cameron Smith is far and away the best example in the current competition.

You seem to want me to defend the idea that Smith is the be all and end all of this team. Of course he's not. But as I said above, its no coincidence that the teams he plays in win.

I won't bother with it any further. I've done my best to convince you and it just isn't how you see the world. Its your choice- no skin off my nose if you think differently.

lol i do understand your argument. You keep saying it's no coincidence that teams he plays in win yet you keep failing to mention the teams and coaches he has been under.

Bellamy and Bennett are 2 of the best coaches in history and half his time he was at melbourne they were a cheating side. I get you're whole argument that these players are all one of a kind and they give a confidence to everyone around them but Smith , Kennedy and Lockyer were/are all in great squads and had some awesome coaches.
