Now my only problem is learning to play it!...I have been able to master the old "SHARKIES!, Boom, Boom, Boom." Only took me a few weeks!

100% agree with you slide. Whether it's a good song or not, using Bon Jovi is targetting the wrong audience.

The whole point of that song was meant to be taking on the AFL - and where is the battle with AFL being fought? For the support of the "kids" or younger people. That's what all the work in Western Sydney has been about, winning over the kids.

Bon Jovi simply caters to the Baby Boomers and Gen X'ers - and most of those are already Rugby League fans. It is a step backwards.

That was what made the last AFL promo so successful - they used The Dropkick Murphies "Shipping Out To Boston" despite it having no real relevance to sport. It had an immediate impact, whether you like the song or not, you could not help but notice that ad.

Kids watching an ad featuring Bon Jovi =

I absoloutely passionately cannot stand this add, it ruined one of my favourote songs for me.

Ummm...I think some of you may have misunderstood me. I didn't say the NRL should us that Dropkick Murphies song, or indeed any Dropkick Murphies song. I was just saying that was a successful ad because it had appeal for the youth market.

An observation from friday night's trial v manly. About 90% of those bastards had jerseys, caps etc. At sharks home game its probably about 20% of our supporters. What are we doing wrong

compare a crowd of 4k ( if that ) to 16k, add in the fact Manly the scum bags were giving out free memberships. Can't compete with free stuff.

Plus it was a trial match, it was a bastard of a time I left Homebush at 3pm, took me 50 min to get there. most major routes coming from shire etc are clogged as before 5pm. not much point leaving home.

They should have televised it or broadcast on radio.

Hey snapper, my comment was only based on the fact that the manly supporters mostly had supporters gear on where a home game for us the percentage of sharks gear is lower. It wasn't a comment on sharks supporters not getting there

It was my first visit to brooky in a lot of years and was surprised by sea of maroon and white. I went to Skilled stadium for sharks game in 09 and it was a sea of titans colours. I'd say 99% of them had a jersey or at least a cap

Problem we have is that a lot of people who turn up to our games don't seem to be real Sharks fans.

A lot just seem to be there for the night out to be seen.

I thought that a lot when I went to matches with a mate when I was in high school.

That observation has intensified in the last few years especially seeing opposition fans outvoice ours.

It's become a real concern of mine in recent years.

Totally agree Pete. It's been a concern of mine as well. Especially when we play at home against teams like rabbits, dogs, dragons whose supporters travel and are very vocal and visual.

I don't think the club has done a good enough job in the past of developing a clothing range that appeals to the average shire person tbh.

I think a lot of the clothing has been quite unfashionable in the past. Most NRL stuff is developed to appeal to Western Sydney.

Some of the vintage stuff is getting there, but they need to come up with some more stylish stuff.

Also, a lot of people go on to Northies etc after the games. It's not really appropriate to wear NRL style merchandise if you intend to go out afterwards.

I'll put my hand up for that one. Footy jumpers just don't really appeal to me, considering I have to pay $100 bucks for one.

The vintage range does appeal though, as does some of this years stuff- the jacket Tongia was photographed in for instance, the trucker cap.

Very good points slide rule.

I generally kick on at the club after a game but on the occassions that i go straight home on the bus, each bus is loaded to the gills with 20-30yo's all heading to Northies.

At least they've come to the game, just a pity we can't get them into the club afterwards

well maybe the club could put something on to appeal to 20 -30 age group to keep more of them at the club after games. years ago there used to be a players presentation for all grades in the club. plus in the main auditorium they put on good bands after saturday night games.

I wouldn't be entirely sure but didn't the club get rid of the players presentation post game in the Leagues Club after the 2003 debacle with Chris Anderson being jeered by the fans.

I agree with the sentiment that more needs to be done in the trendy clothing category.

The club seems to have disconnected itself from the core area we should be focused on and that is the Shire itself.

It's become very annoying walking around Miranda seeing Eels,Tigers and Rabbitohs jerseys in the Shire.

On the trendy clothes issue, I agree a lot of people in that age bracket(I'm in that bracket but not a nightclubs person at all) can't wear footy stuff in places like Northies or Carmens etc. and we need to tap into that market big time.

I think you will find more peopel will wear sharks gear if the team starts winning. Its no secret that the club has been doing babdly which isn;t exactly incentive to buy and wear its appparel

We seem to have more closet fans than most clubs for some reason, AS.

When I went to that ill-fated 2008 preliminary final against the Cheats at the SFS, I have never seen that many fellow Sharks fans outside of Toyota Stadium ever.

If we can turn our fortune arounds, I think a lot of people will start coming out of the woodwork again.

I remember a post game presentation about 2 seasons back with ricky in charge. Didn't know it was going to be on, just heard an announcement at the club or perhaps the game. It had fair attendance as we had won so audience was pretty lubricated and vocal

Was a good way to round off a great night out at sharkies

You're right sharky pete. Walking around Miranda Fair, you'll see more non-sharks gear than sharks gear. Something is missing ????

I agree, walking around Miranda Fair last weekend, I saw someone with a Tigers jersey on, I even saw a Shetland Ponies jersey around as well.

I'd like to know what has happened to the amount of Sharks jerseys in our own area, I think people have forgotten they are supposed to be in Shark Country.

I remember some goon yelled out GO PARRA at me from his car while I was wearing my Sharks jersey and I was thinking wtf, am I in Miranda or am in Merrylands or Granville, this is getting rather ridiculous.
