Instead of having High expectations I'm going to have low ones and when it is achieved set new ones.

Expectations: Win one of our first 5 games.

Hopes: Have a nice DRY saturday night game.

Expectation - Top 8

Hopes - Relatively injury free, more of our Juniors come through, Kelly to have an impact, our new players to make their mark, penalty count to be quartered, more line ball decisions our way.

I guess in some ways, my hopes and expectations are the same as most people's: I hope the Sharks have a successful season and play finals football. As usual, I expect the Sharks players to show heart, guts and passion - no matter what the scoreboard says at the end of the day.

On the other hand, my biggest hope and dream has nothing to do with the football team. I just hope to see the future of our Club secured forever with the success of our development joint venture. If that is signed off and underway this year, I will be a happy man! (Then I can start dreaming of that premiership!)

My other big hope is to see the Shire re-embrace the Sharks in a big way, with big crowds back at Shark Park and our membership to grow past last years record number.;)

I expect our forward pack to "Monster" a few fancied opponent packs-Starting game 1 and also particularly later against the Rabbits. In fact i was speaking to a Pommie in the Pub the other night and he arrived last year and picked the Sharks to follow cause he reckoned they played like an old fashioned Pommie Pack with Staunch and starch up the middle.

I'm hoping for two main things this year - ball control and defence out wide.

Too many times in 2010 we dropped the ball or let in soft tries. There needs to be more steel in 2011.

The top 8 would be a great achievement and I think that would be a great springboard into 2012.

I am sure that Gal did not need the captaincy to motivate him to play well - after all he was by far the best player for us last year. But I do expect to see a new Gal this year - still tough and compromising but even more inspirational.

Jeremy Smith has to stay fit for more than two thirds of the season for him to show his worth. But I have a few Dragon mates that have told me he is a great buy as he has that toughness, the belief and the knowledge of how to win a premiership and experience. With Gal and Smith leading our pack we will hopefully make it harder for teams to beat us.

And lastly, I want Shark Park to be a fortress again where opposing teams are absolutely scared *****less to play there and know they will have to play well to beat us.

Iron Shark - I also can't wait for our finances to be better and assure our future. At the moment it is a real worry.

I have bought my season ticket again and will be ready for battle in 2011. Bring it on!

Some of you (especially hitman - top 4?!) need to rename your expectations 'delusions'.

I expect us to be a mob no one looks forward to playing. A side that doesn't get toweled up and win or lose everything is left on the paddock and everyone in blue, black and white can leave with their head held high after each game.

I also expect a return to the days of our home ground being a graveyard - it should be the toughest, dirtiest 2 competition points to steal in the League. This should be every fan's (of Sharks or whoever) expectation.

I hope a solid partnership is formed in the halves (I don't care who it consists of) quickly and that results in us winning a few more than we lose, and maybe even dishing out the occasional drubbing on our night. I don't expect us to make the 8, but I'd like to see us still in the running after Origin at least, but making the finals really would make it a better than average achievement for the season.

Off field I look forward to us continuing in positive direction in terms of memberships, crowds, the development and every other facet of the Club.

Stability and growth off the field and a top 10-12 finish on the field. Realistically with our squad I cant see any better than that. The important thing this year is too win some more games, especially early and start to get a side together that can challenge in the future. At the moment there are big question marks over the halves and outside backs.

Cap I knew I would cop some stick for my top four expectation, but would you agree that our list of players is beginning to look very strong, infact I believe its much stronger than about 14 of the other teams. I truly believe we have better players than Penrith and Wests did last year, and they both made top 4. Flanno is no mug, he has been groomed for this job for a long time.
If we get back that Grinding style of game, the sky really is the limit.

I also think that a top 4 finish maybe on the cards, (definitely top 8).

I agree with your comments hitman.

Our squad looks good on paper and with the knowledge and determination which Flanno brings to the side.

We just need the supporters to show up.

Big call Hitman, you are one die hard fan, I love your passion, my heart says top 4, my brain, well thats another matter but I will go on record & say I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed" so there is hope for my heart & your prediction yet.

I am all for bringing back that grinding style of game but only for the defensive part of our game, I would love us to have an attacking free flowing style complimented w/ defensive grit of our 2008 season.

History shows that once a new style of play is implemented by a side & proves successful other teams tend to try & copy it for the next year or two (like Dragons style now). I hope Flanno is innovative & trys a new style that SUITS OUR SQUAD OF PLAYERS, sort of like Tim Sheens did when the Tigers won the comp.

Mate you have got to be joking. Take your black, blue and white goggles off for a minute. Compare the top 25 squads. We are bottom five easily, especially in the halves and backs. Our top 13 is good but our overall depth is very light. Our back up players are unproven rookies or guys like Porter, Tautai and Cordoba who would struggle to get a contract at most clubs.

Forget about the grinding style as well. Those days are gone. Attacking football is the go now. Thats what we have to do.

We will have 2 good wingers, strong centres, good fb, halves yet to prove themselves (we are definately not worse off than parra though 2 years ago with mortimer and robson), a forward pack the envy of the league and a coach out to prove something on a one year contract. Its a very real chance to go deep into the eight.

We are just use to average because of the last few years. Hitmans right - strong recruitment for this year was acheived, why not top 4.

Totally disagree with the grinding thing, thats an era that has gone and we were average - even when we finished top we were still average. We showed some spark last season and won some games by big margins, I expect and hope more of this - beleive!!!!

Hopes - to get a fair go from Ch 9 and get some T.V games.

I also hope we get channel 9 away games.

I really don't want our home games being on channel 9, so people in the shire would have even less of an excuse not to go to games.

If I get things my way, then the home games will be played at 2pms on Sundays on fox sports, and the away games being played and shown on channel 9 on 7.30pm Fridays.

you have a really good point about depth, and that we are lacking, as rugby league is such a physically demanding game, injuries can make you or break you. But I am still under my "blissfully ignorant only been watching league for 3 seasons hat" and This is the way I see it.

I will give you an example

Sharks Players- Gallen, Topou, Smith, Millington, Douglas, Snowden, Vave, Gardner,Graham,Best, Morris,

To me looks better than,

Wests- Marshall, Farrah, Ellis, Lawrence, Lote.

Parramatta-Hayne, Tim Mannah, Hayne, Hayne and he isnt even fit.

Titans- Prince,Bird, Friend, and old hacks who if they were going to win a comp would have won it already.

Bulldogs- Ennis,Idris and Tolman are the only good players I can think think of.

The only teams with better players than us are Souths, Storm, and as much as I hate to say it, the goons.

I know there may be many flaws in my point of view right here, but its just what I believe.

i think a top 8 finish is realistic epectation, & if tim smith or kelly steps up & has a big year a top 4 finish is possible but if one of these 2 do not have a great year i do not think we will be able to score to trouble the top sides.
