Have to disagree about Barba over Peachey, I’ve just watched three videos of his highlights and like I remember he was a deadset freak. Yes he didn’t get us to a grand final but you can’t compare Peachey’s 11 years to Barba’s 2. It’s Peachey for mine.

Who remembers his famous put downs just before the dead ball line?

You would be able to compare Barbas 2 years if his 15 was like his 16

As good as Peach was he couldnt do what Barba could

Barbas 2016 is better than anything Peachy did, and he has a premiership ring to show it off

You know who I ****ing loved for Cronulla?

7. Paul Green.

Wish he stayed with us. He was ****ing awesome for us, then nothing much happened after that.

The Peach V Barba Question would be a Beauty to someone that played with or against Both. Gal Wouldve played with both would he not, and Ennis might've played against Peach?

Do they players stay at their prime? Do their careers take the same trajectory?

If it’s just picking the better player, it’s Barbs for me. If you want a club man who probably won’t do blow or hit his misses, it’ll be Peach.

I remember being heaps young and meeting the peach at the Bomaderry RSL. Mum was a massive fan and may as well have dragged me by the ear to go see him. Dude was a legend, sat down with us for the night and was a complete gentleman from memory. Might have his signature on the back of a coaster floating around the house somewhere

Surely there are already a bunch of threads the same or similar as this

Anyways

although Barba was only with us a few season I reckon him over Peachey - I know that's controversial

I love Peachey, is one of my all time fav players and got me following the Sharks but we don't win the comp in 2016 without Barba - he had an incredible season. He was all round just so good in attack and defense
I think both players were more suited in style to their respective era's

I liked Jezzas aggression (when not breaking someones neck and getting penalised) and what he brought to our team in some very poor years with very poor squads but I couldn't have him in there over other worthwhile candidates

Peachey is and always will be a legend.. but Barba was next next level.

You could put him in any era and he would kill it.

An interesting argument for sure

The Peach was a Cronulla legend and an iconic Cronulla player. A fantastic performer for many years for the club.

Barba was a Dally M quality talent with no self control and a lot of problem. He produced a select few seasons where he was in the top elite echelon of NRL players.

Barba had the higher ceiling but the lower floor. Signing one or the other to a long term deal is an interesting conundrum - depends how much of a gambler you are I guess.
For a 'Greatest team' I guess it depends whether for that title you value peak quality or peak quantity

Peachey was an absolute freak, brilliant player.

Having said that, 2016 Barba was the best fullback performance I have ever seen, hands down.

Is this a greatest team thread or a favourite team thread? For a bunch of weird reasons my “favourite” Sharks team would have a lot of blokes in it who wouldn’t go near making the greatest team. E.g. Alan Wilson was the first footy card I ever got when I was 9yo.

That might make for a more interesting (and longer) thread. The greatest team is going to generally be 14-15 of the same blokes. Favourite teams are all going to have ET and at least one Rogers, but will probably vary pretty widely after that.

Can't really fault that team Puma, a Beauty. Except I would have Barba at 1. Otherwise agree on all names/positions. I'd have Sorensons and Stevo on Bench, plus maybe Rick Bourke/Peachey to Cover backs. We have resilient halves/Hooker there. Would've loved to fit Barry Andrews on the bench but alas too many great players in that mix.
