Having done the job for 20 odd years I think teachers are very well paid. You wouldnt feed half of them.Im now a Deputy Principal and I see how much or little some staff do and my school is really good for a public school.
The myth that all teachers work each night marking etc is just that..a myth. Some may but not majority
Is it an easy job....no
Is it a well payed job... yep {let's face it we get 12 weeks off}
Re Scandinavian countries they excel....mainly as they teach to tests and have a narrow focus...they generally dont teach enough skills and as such import specialists for many areas.
It is in fact meant to be Gaol but it is now excepted as jail.

My wife is a tafe teacher, 10years as a casual, well paid? Cash wise yes, but she would hand it all in for a perm job though, she doesnt get paid for that 12 weeks holidays. Tafe now closed In nsw ,waiting to see what they do with the casuals considering apprentices still gotta be trained...

Tank pretty well has it covered. I went to uni with some people I'd be straight up horrified to teach my kids. So you're not wrong on the atar part. Luckily there's a bit more vetting before they make it into the classroom and I've yet to see anything quite that bad in schools.

A classroom teacher maxes out at just over 100k. With 12 weeks holiday we are very lucky. We get paid enough. Assistant principals and up definitely don't for extra responsibility and BS they cop from communities.

Investing more into teachers is always a good idea though. If you increase the attractiveness of the job, you get better candidates which lead to better student outcomes, which should lead to a more intelligent society as a whole.
