Booze absolutely gets people more "into it" no matter what "it" is. Our RSA laws make it taboo though.
I don't see why? Refer my comment about Matildas' games. IPL games are fantastic, no booze there.

I absolutely love having a beer at the game but I make no less noise these days taking my kid compared to when I went in my 20s getting on the booze.

Are people there for the footy, or not?

Even before half the stadium got closed our fans are among the most subdued and quiet in the NRL and have been for years. Most of the people that go don’t seem to give two shits about the football and more interested in the social aspect of the night.

Its frankly embarrassing whenever I hear the opposition fans being louder then the locals.

Atmosphere of a Dressage event.
Whilst the Game Day atmosphere has been poor since we returned to Pointsbet I can't agree it has always been that way .

A big change has been the disappearance of the CSC group from Pointsbet .

In 2016 & 2017 the NRL rated Shark Park No1 for Game Day atmosphere ie the Lyall period.

There are many factors which have impacted the atmosphere ( including the poor facilities ) but a couple of key ones are
(1) the club reacting to the keyboard warriors' "I don't like" every time something new is tried
(2) changing things that work for the sake of changing them

I also miss the kids being able to run onto the field & have fun after a daylight game .

I still can't get over how the club claimed the Hammerhead mascot was retired last year because kids were traumatised by it ( after ??? years )

The club needs to note that the Big Bash is a success not just for the cricket .

I've been to games there when there's been no issues getting a beer, the atmosphere is no better.

I don't see many juiced up people at Matildas' games and the atmosphere there is awesome.
I didn’t say it was literally the only way to get people louder.
There are ways that it can though.

How loud are you cheering when there?
Seems to be a lot of people all saying everyone else it too quiet

Are you considering other factors though? If there are no beer lines there's usually a small crowd. Is there a bigger crowd at the matildas? I'm by no means saying the crowd is great, but I don't go and feel like the atmosphere is ****.

I've been to games there with 10k (so not much less than current capacity) when there there were more beer outlets. Beer lines weren't fantastic but you weren't waiting more than 10 minutes.

Matildas' games at smaller grounds, like AAMI, have a better atmosphere than our games.

I don't know why people get so sensitive about it.

I get into it mate, don't care if I'm with mates or my kids.

I've taken mates who follow other teams and they same the same thing, the atmosphere is ****.

Leichardt is renowned for an amazing atmosphere. The only thing that felt different to me was it was more full (extra 5k or so fans) and the hill is massive and filled with people standing and on the piss. Our best hill is an alcohol free zone, so you don't get the louder people grouped together revving up the crowd. If you spread those people out, and reduced it by 5k, it would have been the same atmosphere IMO.

Amazing to think they had 22k at Leichhardt a few years ago for a game. Where the **** did they fit them in haha.

IPL is a different country & culture. Pommy RL fans are way different too singing & ****.

Not saying ya can't get into it without booze but there's no denying it helps.

A lot of people aren't there for the footy, or not just the footy.

Yeah fair enough. That's one thing I'll never really understand tbh.

Really? It's a huge thing. Heaps of young people at the AFL just for the social. Baseball in the states is another massive one. Many will pre drink then rock up in the 6th or 7th innings. You do all the things you would at a pub, but there's a game to watch and atmosphere (clearly debatable).

I don't understand why people get the dirts about beer lines. If you get there plenty of time before the main game you don't queue up and while halftime might be a short period of time and make it difficult, do you really need to drink four beers during a game?

We've got guys who sit next to us who turn up right on kick off with a tray of 2 beers each, consume those and then decide to get up and push past us 5-10 minutes before half time and go down to get more beers. They arrive back again right on kick off time for the second half, we have to get up out of our seats for them to get to theirs and then they get up again during the second half to get more beers.

My son calls them "the beer guys" so it's not lost on him how often they reload. I must admit, they don't get rowdy or abusive, there probably nice guys really but it's bloody annoying having to get up out of our seats so often to let them out and let them back in.

Doesn't have to be your motivation, or something you'd do, but plenty of people go to things for the broader experience.

I've got to local AFL because a few mates were going, I've gone to Test cricket to go with mates (I 'like' cricket but I can't do it all day, a few overs at a time or T20 for me).

I went to the WWE for the experience, one of my mates has been wanting to do quiz nights at pub recently, I go to hang with mates not for the quiz.

If I went to a Rugby League game it would be for the game first and foremost. But been to plenty of other things just to hang out.

I don't drink at the games often either. But it's pretty simple to understand that you shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes for a beer, especially when the game is only 80 minutes long (or sometimes longer according to Burgo).

Yeah fair enough. I wouldn't bother spending the money if it was something I wasn't really into but each to their own I guess.

Yeah I agree. As I've said before, it's a problem at suburban grounds. Parra Stadium is brilliant for good service.

Mate, I agree that 20 mins is a long time to wait. But I have never experienced that and neither have any of my mates who have sat next to me and got beers at halftime. They always come back way in time for kick off as do the guys next to us who go down multiple times.

Or god forbid they were allowed to hold a can rather than drink from a plastic cup. That was a nice touch at Liechardt.
Cans would make a massive difference to speed. I get why you can't serve cans at say European soccer games but is it really an issue doing it at Shark Park? Surely not.
